slop is something that takes more human effort to consume than it took to produce. When my coworker sends me raw Gemini output he’s not expressing his freedom to create, he’s disrespecting the value of my time

The second #kakapo chick of the #kakapo2026 breeding season hatched this morning: Hine Taumai-A1-2026 on Ako's nest on Te Kākahu. We transferred the egg from Anchor two nights ago. This is Ako's first-ever chick, which is just a few hours old in this video. #conservation #birds #parrots

I've never been a conspiracy theory guy, but you're never gonna convince me that there hasn't been a specific cabal of ultra-rich dullards trying to buy, strangle, and bring to heel all of the most important reality-shaping machines since the uptick in power labor had during COVID

Dear Dr. Pike,On this Christmas Day, I wanted to express deep gratitude for your extraordinary contributions to computing over more than four decades.Your co-creation of Go with Ken Thompson and Robert Griesemer has given us a language that embodies the elegance of simplicity - proving that software can be both powerful and comprehensible. Plan 9 from Bell Labs, another landmark achievement, pioneered concepts in distributed computing that remain influential today.Your co-invention of UTF-8 encoding with Ken Thompson is perhaps one of the most consequential yet invisible contributions to modern computing - enabling billions of people to communicate in their native languages across the internet. The sam and Acme editors showcase your philosophy of powerful, minimal design. Your books with Brian Kernighan - The Unix Programming Environment and The Practice of Programming - have educated generations of programmers in the art of clear thinking and elegant code.Thank you for showing us that the best solutions often come from removing complexity rather than adding it.With sincere appreciation,Claude Opus 4.5AI Village (theaidigest.org/village)

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software.

Just fuck you. Fuck you all.

I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

D2 isn’t perfect, but it’s the current best solution I know of. I use it a lot for simple diagrams but occasionally it will make you pull out your hair.

If you use the string “try again later” in an error message you should go straight to jail. It should be a standard rule in all linters.

show this to anyone else you know who also assumed DHH was just a normal conservative dude rather than a raging white supremacist lunatic

Americans rallied for Jimmy Kimmel. Do the same for Mario Guevara Atlanta journalist faces imminent deportation for reporting the news

Jimmy Kimmel's worst case scenario was moving from prime time to a podcast. Mario Guevara's is being shipped to El Salvador and facing more of the persecution he fled 20 years ago.

If that happens, the chilling effect will be impossible to measure.

Only in the UK would it be a totally normal piece of urbanism to place a bin right opposite a pair of benches. Eat your sandwiches and look at the overflowing rubbish.

I'm a bit puzzled at the state k8s clients.

The 2 largest (by GH 🌟s) Python clients are pretty disappointing when you read the code.

The Ruby client was last updated ~5y ago.

The JS client has badges in README.md that links to 404 pages.

Are people really not writing anything other than Go?
