There is an anecdote from Guillem d'Efak, a singer-songwriter
from Mallorca. His mother was from Guinea, and the anecdote says that in the 1970s, one day, in a bar, the waiter adressed him in Spanish and, as Guillem d'Efak answered in Catalan, the waiter said 'Fuck, man, I thought you were black!'
I don't know if there is any academic literature on it, but there are many articles in different newspapers (for example www.vilaweb.cat/noticies/par..., there is no Eng. translation, but youc an read it with GoogleTranslate or ChatGPT)

The "sociolinguistic" branch of onomastics. In short: it is the (sub)discipline that studies the social implications of certain uses of place names. In my chapter, I analyse the political significance of changing the spelling of a very iconic and indexical city name: Maó.
