Those 14 years came from the Tories winning four elections with between 10.7 & 14 million votes. Starmer’s Labour got 9.7 million votes in 2024. While the electoral system & circumstances meant this got them a large Commons majority, they surely don’t have much further to sink and retain a majority.

Aporia describes itself as ‘the world’s only sociobiology magazine’. As @harryshukman explains in his frightening Year of the Rat, this is a euphemism for scientific racism. I’d hope Tory Peer Nigel Biggar’s appearance on its podcast was naive rather than knowing.

I asked the Restore Britain donor, Miles Routledge, if he stood by the Hitler post and other comments. He replied: “That’s exactly what I said and meant, and I was likely holding back… I must add that I will also imprison journalists such as yourself when I take an ounce of power.”

It was in the public domain that Mandelson had been fired from the Cabinet twice, that he was Epstein's friend, that he'd stayed in Epstein's house while Deputy PM, that he'd been a lobbyist for 15 years, and more. It was in the note prepared for the PM, too. So…what game are we playing here?

He added: "I believe very strongly that women's wards should be for biological women. What do we do about tha biological female who is a trans man, looks, sounds, presents, lives, his life as a man is biologically female? We wouldn't put him on a women's ward. That would be degrading for him and humiliating And cruel.

Wes streeting admits what he is doing is "humilating and cruel".

But only for trans men (that look and sound man enough).

Perfectly happy to inflict cruelty and humiliation on trans women.

A year under attack – and a year fighting back Jess O’Thomson and Jolyon Maugham reflect on what has happened in the year since the Supreme Court’s judgment, and how the trans community has courageously fought back

It's a year today since the Supreme Court decision on the meaning of "sex" under the Equality Act 2010.

Jolyon Maugham and I have written a reflective piece with our thoughts on the judgment, everything that has happened since, and why it's so important that we are still fighting - together 👇

Maybe we’re related then :)
Not yet, sadly. The closest I’ve got to Nairnshire is the Aberdeen-Shetland ferry trip.

Interesting… this means his ancestors specifically oppressed mine (eg my g.g.g.grandmother Margaret, born in Cawdor, Nairnshire in 1829, worked as a servant, family moved to Aotearoa in 1860).

But just to be clear, you shouldn’t vote for any Reform candidate regardless of who their ancestors were.

And of course there are no significant plans to remedy those issues.
The impact statement floats the idea (admitting they don’t have evidence for it) that 50% of jobs no longer filled by migrants will be filled by locals who are currently long term unemployed. Which is, to say the least, a stretch.

Their immigration changes will cost the country billions, have discriminatory effects, & take care workers from people who need them, but it's “justified for legitimate policy aims of lowering net migration and reducing reliance on overseas workers.”

Poster for Self Acceptance Month by SEMA (Scottish Ethnic Minority Autistics). Background shows yellow tulips with one red tulip in the foreground. Text reads “Autistic, Not Weird!” with an infinity symbol. A bar chart shows responses to the statement “If there were a cure for my autism, I would take it.” Most respondents selected “strongly disagree” (54.99%) and “disagree” (26.95%), with smaller percentages agreeing or neutral. Bottom text reads “#CelebrateDifferences” and “sema.scot”.

There have been brief moments recently where I wished I wasn’t autistic. This was because of other people’s treatment, not because of any intrinsic flaws within me. When those people are very close relationships, it hurts even more.

This book looks excellent, really looking forward to reading it.

If you have a connection to an academic library, you could also put in a purchase request for this.

Sam Altman Says It'll Take Another Year Before ChatGPT Can Start a Timer An $852 billion company, ladies and gentlemen.

Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work*

Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!

He’s done too much damage to too many vulnerable minorities to be given a platform.
Kanye isn’t great either.

The McSweeney set really still do seem to believe “moderate social democracy is unelectable, the working class want a sensible govt that won’t stop militarily assisting a paedo white suprematist who threatens to wipe out a civilisation, and polling 1/3 of Labour’s votes under Corbyn proves that”

Donald Trump's nuclear fixation - from the 1980s to now The president's recent nuclear sabre-rattling shouldn't be viewed as an isolated incident.

He’s had a ghoulish fascination with the idea of using nuclear weapons for years. I assume he’s needed to be talked down from having used them already. www.bbc.com/news/world-u...

It says something really ugly and frightening about us as a country that we can have a president spouting deranged threats to commit unambiguous war crimes & it’s just another week; no immediate action to remove him from office.

This would be a huge contract for JCB.

In other news, the JBC group has so far given £1.1 million to the Conservative party and Kemi Badenoch since she became its leader

Just think what a different view of humanity we’d get if, instead of focussing on those who smear and scapegoat “illegal immigrants”, the media covered the groups up & down the UK providing refugees from war zones with welcome packs of food & clothing, & offering them voluntary work opportunities?

Autistic Social Experience and the Sally-Anne Test: Stop Jerking Little Kids Around I actually began this post several years ago, but was sidetracked from finishing it by publishing a book, an uptick in work, the onset of a global pandemic, and then republishing a book…and by the …

"You can’t persistently mislead children about social expectations and then punish them for believing you.

"Only, when it comes to autistic kids, obviously you can."

I am a Christian ethicist and I endorse this message

[hate to wreck a 1 liner, but: following Jesus no, Christians yes, w/ many predecessors among God’s people, as Bible & history make clear. We can’t do no-true-Scotsman to deny our connection to these Christians & our own complicity & failures.]

I would have said all emergency services, but sadly the only one that I’m confident actually is universally free at point of use in the US is the cops

Yes, because we don’t want to have to have a whole infrastructure of income/wealth verification & means-testing before we allow people to enter a public park, use a public toilet, walk on the footpath or use the road, be saved by a lifeguard, call the cops, or go to the library, you gooses

Jesus treated disabled people with respect and love, honouring their value and dignity as much as anyone else, acting for their social healing, restoring or bringing disabled people into full participation in society (whatever the complexities of the cure miracles), even breaking the law to do so.
