_Drafts of History_ (ably conceived and collected by Vaibhav Singh) is terrific. Another, slightly different project, is the Masthead Monday, run by Beth Gaskell of the BL.

Where did you find the image, Patrick? Do you own the comic? (I'd love to share the image the next time I teach my "JE & its Afterlives" class).

Wonderful! (And fascinating that the cover actually shows Bertha Mason, not JE...from a scene that never takes place in the novel, of course, but....).

The NYer devoted 2 revs to it; I recommend Justin Chang's who is v good on the way the movie "airbrushes" the violence of that time/Johnson's novella: "the film effectively uses Grainier’s psychology as cover for its own squeamishness."

One way my class "gets around" the anachronism problem -- placing letterpress _in conversation_ w/ ms. -- is several sessions on mss. & the labor of producing them. I also assign sections of Emma Donoghue's 2022 _Haven_ on the monk-scribe copying. It's incredible & students FEEL the labor.

Assembling Home in the Mission Field: Evangelical Periodical Culture in Britain and Tahiti, ca. 1790s–1830s | Journal of British Studies | Cambridge Core Assembling Home in the Mission Field: Evangelical Periodical Culture in Britain and Tahiti, ca. 1790s–1830s - Volume 65

Interesting article in @jbritishstudies.bsky.social about missionary periodicals. When I first joined @rs4vp.org I was going to do something with the Bible Society’s *Monthly Register*. Someone still should.

That sig on the right indicates the Dalziel brothers' firm that did woodcut work. In _Wood-engravers Self-Portrait_ Bethan Stevens discusses the many individuals who worked for the firm, some whose names we know, others not. In short, this signature is a "composite" or corporate identity.

That's what I've been doing: getting a student from the previous semester to prep the slurry beforehand. And I have FOUR m&d.... I think our choke point is pulling the paper off the mould & drying racks. (I tend to have 18 students and 80 min).

Seconding Michael's recs. These are always my go-tos in trying to identify British engravers, draughtsmen, and artists in the trade.

I have students soak paper overnight & bring it to class. Even so, we barely have time for blending the soaked sheets, getting the slurry to the right consistency, & letting each student have 2 chances to pull sheets. How many mould-&-deckles do you have?
