Unsolicited writing advice, no. 15:
Donβt be a control freak. Give your characters agency. If they can surprise you, ambush you, knock you off balance, it means youβve made them come to life. Follow them. See what they do.
Writing is like reading. The story unfolds in front of you. You can guide it but you can't control it. Each chapter surprises me in one way or another.
