Had a quick look to see if I have a run sheet for Connaught B7 from the Goodwood race... Archie Scott Brown retired from 2nd place with gearbox problems.

A brilliant first episode - highly recommend.
Look forward to that, such a great race! FWIW 1994 LB winner, PC23 01 (in Indy configuration) now back in the UK.

Children of the Stones was wonderful.
Senna raced the Toleman TG183B-05 in the four opening rounds of the 1984 season in Brazil, South Africa, Belgium and San Marino.
I have a soft spot for Jimmy Vasser - as a very jr engineer I attended a lot of tests. Hanging out at a hotel bar at one of these, Jimmy came up and suggested we shoot pool, which we did and had a few beers and a good laugh. I really couldn't belive it, a wonderful guy. racer.com/2026/04/05/l...
I avoid AI but for interest asked Gemini about the PC23 in general and about specific chassis historys just to see what happened. It's mad, it just makes shit up and sounds so convinced of the crap it's spewing. I'm well down the list of people who know the car which is a bit disappointing.
I love the look of this car, the nose immediately reminded me of the X-Bomber in the TV series Star Fleet - my favorite on a Saturday morning as a kid.
Pencil sketch of Mercedes 500I pushrod engine valve gear
Starting a new notebook is nearly as exciting as starting the project itself. I tell myself every time 'this will be the best yet' although in truth I've never topped the Merc DTM notebook. Opeing with a sketch of the pushrod valve gear.
I suspect, but don't know for sure, the idea is to reduce weight and complication by feeding the load into the tub in a more natural way rather than through complex bolted pickups for which bonded in, bolted brackets, where you have a lot of variables.
If you haven't listened to BV 1 I highly recommend it. As in best audio / podcast of last year by far. That it's promoted in partnership with Loud Burst says everything.

Personal news - my house was flooded on the 24th of November 2024, all of downstairs was destroyed in around 10 mins. Today, I got my study back. Trying to pick back up from where I left off, a bit of design stuff and some writing. PC needs about a million updates but will get there.
Penske PC23 Indycar with body removed
Penske PC23 Indycar wheel and carbon brakes
Penske PC23 Indycar front dampers
Penske PC23 Indycar turbo wastegate.
A few more #PC23 pushrod pic's. Still all feels a bit surreal but kinda getting used to seeing it each morning. Trying to plan restoration (rebuild might be more accurate as it's in good shape) around other work.
1999
I promised to get back on message after my AI outrage of last night (sorry about that) so here are some world supersport bike parts I've been trying to persuade against a determined return to nature...
www.theverge.com/podcast/8987... I cannot begin to articulate how angry this interview has made me after stumbling on it. Well worth the listen just to understand how these people absolutely do not give a f**k about even basic ethics. Apologies, will be back on subject tomorrow.
Such a beautiful car.
The somewhat astonishing Alcon 12 Pot calipers fitted to the #PC27 In fact these produce a bit of drag when hot and were one of the issues the car had in 1998. But they are quite beautiful!
www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ce... My heart goes out to all those affected. Memories of Oxford Brooks 1999... it's a evil, evil disease.
Some minor #PC27 news - new headrest (was missing and now redesigned to acomodate a HANS device) is just about done. Still fighting electronics and flywheel trigger pickups so it's encoraging to make a little progress elsewhere!

Leyton House has one fitted for authenticity (but not used).
Although anything you can do safty wise is comendable I've never been convinced this was a good idea... or had the potential to make a marginal situation worse. Happy to be corrected.
Yes
I fear there will come a point where the fact the best drivers in the world do not enjoy driving what should be the pinicle of 4 wheeled combat clashes unavailability with the wishes of the manufacturers and the FIA. racer.com/2026/03/07/d...
Maybe I should have phrased it as 'There are a lot of those things on many cars and they are not cheap'. Or alternatively 'Why the f**k are the rad bleeds straoflex and not just a drilled bolt'. That sort of thing...
You have no idea how expensive these things are... or the lead time. 90 days is good going.
