I have a feeling some of the people I work with on town level stuff would be thrilled to slap a wee tax on second homes, which comprise almost half of our homes

if NYC touches the hot stove, maybe we can too

I did NOT enjoy that.

Found a fanfic with a fascinating-to-me premise. Started reading. Setting details were egregiously wrong, no author's note about an AU or anything. I'm guessing either AI-written or really really bad machine translation from not-English.

Disappointed! Still like the premise.

I mean. He doesn’t always but I heard he had for that particular skate, and I really like it! It’s not whimsical like the Panda, more reflective and thoughtful, really shows me the range he has while still being true to himself.

I am very much team “let Misha be Misha” and so frustrated at everyone who wants to completely remake his programs. Misha HAS an artistic vision (from what I understand he did the choreo for the Use This Gospel exhibition skate himself?) and I’m starting to be like 🙄 sorry you don’t get it.

I was a big figure skating fan as a kid but hadn’t been paying as much attention recently.

Misha has my attention! 🫶

I was so happy to find other broadcasts because my entire mood was SHUT UP TARA, SHUT UP JOHNNY.

They had zero idea of what they were witnessing. Zero.

That boy has been rent free in my head ever since.

(And there are so MANY layers to what happened there, too. I could go onnnnnn…)

I disliked Book Woman of Troublesome Creek but now am glad I read it because I really liked the sequel! Funny how that works.

Okay, I can say this much:

Take all of my Former Gifted Kid issues and stuff them into about four heartbreaking minutes of performance art, why don't you, Ilia?

"Is this what you wanted?" exactly in time with Skating Prodigy Tricks...? OUCH.

Late to this party as ever but I cannot stop thinking about and crying about this skate and this song.

It hits EXTREMELY close to home due to a personal situation I won't be posting about here. But yeah.

Oh that is SUCH A MOOD. Yeah.

if you invented public libraries today, every opinion page in the country would be arguing for means tested subsidized Amazon Prime memberships

Okay. I can admit when I was wrong and was a curmudgeonly old(ish) lady.

I was 🙄 about what I had kind of written off as emo-boy pseudo-profound poetry.

I've had a rough last couple days and this time the words hit like prayers.

"The past is not a chain, but a thread" - I SO NEEDED THAT TODAY.

one reset I'd personally appreciate: behind the insistence that we must offer the electorate a little bigotry is the idea that commoners are more bigoted than the richer and more educated, who can be appealed to with high minded policy. but then you Ctrl+F "phrenology" in the Epstein files

Culture is as much about what we encourage as what we permit.

see?
here's the thing. A lot of people are like, the earth is fucked, it's beyond salvation, it's hit the tipping point, but time and time again we see that if we just fucking fixed the problem, it rebounds so incredibly fast. Imagine what could be done if people actually cared

Another example where I just assumed/thought/read the vaccine rollbacks were a done deal BUT NO.

They were illegal, immediately challenged in court, and overturned today.

Keep suing and don't believe any of it.

I'm deadly serious with this. A huge reason we're in the mess we're in is because the media treats evidenced policy like housing the homeless and decriminalising drugs as absurd, outrageous nonsense, and "you can't even say blackboard any more because of woke" as serious and meaningful.

here’s a crazy fact: more Americans have been killed in disputes over parking spots than on the NYC subway this year

Also: Some fan content IS just that, and that's fine too!

It is very much not the existence of that side of fandom I object to - it's the sillies who think that's all there is.

This is your grouchy old fandom mom reminder:

Not all fanfic is fluffy romance or explicit smut.

Not all sex in fanfic (or fiction in general) is PWP Because They're Hot.

I would be BORED SILLY with that. For real. Some of us very much have other motivations for what we create and what we read.
