Aye, as you rightly say, getting the support needed is the challenge for so many families. Endless difficulties with lack of funding, lack of trained staff, lack of understanding in some services, etc etc. System needs to be SO much better for families and of course for their loved ones.

Debunking "Profound Autism" and Anti-Neurodiversity With Ember Green — THINKING PERSON'S GUIDE TO AUTISM Ember Green debunks "profound autism" and anti-neurodiversity, with its cherry-picked numbers, fear-mongering, and speaking over autistics.

As harmful autism disinformation campaigns go, grievance parents‘ attempt to break off “ #profoundAutism” as a separate diagnosis via smearing #neurodiversity advocates is notable—mostly for its spitefulness. Select observations by @embergreen.bsky.social:

Yes, every word of this. So glad of the people who stuck around. And wistful about a handful who ran for the proverbial hills. As you rightly say, it can be tough on people who have their own stuff to go through.

PS, from research, 95% of e.g. mass killers of the public are males. And, thus far, from all we know, 0% of mass killers are autistic women. So, if it's autism that is some sort of risk factor here, how do we explain this?

6 days ago 19 1 1 0

It'll be good when more of the media gives even 1% of its attention to the vast majority of autistic people, who work every day to ensure people have good, fair, doable lives. But no, they find 1 young male out of a million, and write as if they represent us all. Depressing stuff, frankly.

Autism isn't what causes planned attacks on others.
Nor are planned attacks caused by being 5ft 7, having size 8 feet, having blue eyes, or shopping at Tesco. Each of which is just as unlikely to 'cause' violence.

1 week ago 35 4 1 0

Our regular gentle reminder that autistic people are, on average, more peaceful than nonautistic people. Research shows that it is also generally a protective factor against crime, not a cause of it.
Any person can claim that something 'caused' someone to be violent. That does not mean it is true.

Trump just posted this of him as Jesus. Straight up heresy.

Worse still, the ABA industry was first challenged on this in 2020, and instead of improving, they doubled down and got worse.

Actually got worse.

And people wonder why we raise concerns about this strange belief-system and its bizarre behaviour.

1 week ago 25 5 0 0

What does this mean? It means most Applied Behavior Analysis industry's research teams give out false information on their research papers. They usually claim that they are not potentially rewarded for finding out their study 'worked'...but they are.
Still trust their 'evidence base' and 'science'?

A 5-Year Update of Conflicts of Interest in Autism Intervention Research in Applied Behavior Analysis Journals - PubMed Researchers' false, incomplete, or missing disclosures of conflicts of interest (COIs) can introduce bias into research, can erode public trust in research findings, and represent ethical violations of most academic journal policies. A 2020 study discovered that publications in applied behavior anal …

So, the ABA industry got worse on this, not better:
"Ninety-three percent of statements claiming no [potential bias] were false. Conflicts of interest are increasingly pervasive in ABA autism intervention research, and the vast majority remain undisclosed"

Yep. Deaf friends and family are as astonished as the rest of us.

1 week ago 8 0 0 0

Agreed. As meaningless as deciding that e.g. unless a Deaf person also has a learning disability, they are not really Deaf...and Deaf people with a learning disability have Profound Deafness as a result.
We can only stare at them in astonishment, really.

1 week ago 21 2 2 1

Exactly that, from all I read from the 'profound autism' believers. They just can't believe that autism is the list of things in the diagnostic manual, and they want it rewritten so it is only a description of a child with profound/multiple disabilities including autism. It's just bizarre.

Aye. And people with very modest liberal/social views are now seen as 'rabid lefties', because the race to the far-right has become so extreme that every bit of humanity now looks unreasonable.
Like any ship where everything falls across to only only side, the whole thing will capsize.

*And in case of doubt, no, I'm not some extreme anti-capitalist. I'm pro ethical, human-rights based, caring approaches that look after those most in need - whilst keeping a check on systems that drain vast sums from the populace to give to the already breathtakingly rich.

Aye, & the 'foreigner' (to use their word) is probably now asked to give up their shirt, since they have nothing else to give.
It's extraordinary that one of the wealthiest nations allegedly cannot now afford to give absolute basics to those in need, but can support billionaires in countless ways.

An illustration of two almost identical scenes. The first is set in 1982 where a rich individual in a business suit has hoarded nearly all the cookies. A worker sits next to him, with only one cookie. Opposite, a person with no cookies at all. The rich person says to the person with one cookie, "Careful, buddy, that foreigner wants your cookie".

In the next illustration, it's now 2025, and the rich person's stash of cookies is now about 100 times bigger. The worker only has one cookie. The other person still has no cookies at all. The rich person tries the same line again.

Our usual gentle reminder to look at, every time you read, "But if we don't take even more away from people in need, there won't be enough for you!"
Who has actually got nearly all the money?
Not the group they've asked you to take money off.
Think.
Check.
There's enough for everyone...

Yes, arguably if this is their belief about marriage - that only the universe's greatest psychic is worthy of their affections - they are likely to find a very lonely life ahead of them. Because there's no such perfect person.

2 weeks ago 2 0 0 0

Yep. Not hard at all. Just say how you feel and what you need. Otherwise it's a *little* like marrying someone who is Blind and then complaining that because they don't 'just know' that you look sad, you're divorcing them. I mean, what?
