Macro photo of bright orange petals, showing slightly less than the upper half of the flower (a marigold). The tips of the petals are catching the sunlight and glowing. Black background.
A burst of color for your Monday: Calendula (aka marigold).

For our own safety: as the Frizz, I AM DECLARING THE AGE OF SCOLDING OVER
We do not ask what protests we are attending
We do not talk about organizing
We do not talk about what resistance groups we may or may not be a part of

I spent yesterday adding words to pictures and glaze to bisque ware. Today is for wheel time. My hands are itching to be covered in clay.

Digital illustration of Gunnison Sage-Grouse at a lek, where males display for choosy females by dancing and inflating their bright yellow chest sacs. The ground in early spring is still covered in snow.
This valentine's day, take some courting tips from these Gunnison Sage Grouse. Go to the club, puff out your chest, dance, and give a complex series of booms, pops, and whistles. 🪶🎨🐡🧪 (for @instbirdpop.bsky.social annual report, 2021)

Three wolves in a tall grass prairie
The photo is pretty fuzzzy because of the hi Iso and the type of lens I used. It's not a great photo from a technical point of view but as aa thumbnail it's adequate.
The composition is great tho so.....

It's a fox in a tree. That's not a metaphor for anything, but there is a long crooked branch coming off the trunk of a dogwood -- the branch goes from lower right to upper left. And upon that branch is a red (really, orange) fox. The fox is lean and long -- a narrow snout, ears tucked back a bit, floofy talk curled downward. The fur is mostly orange but peppered with a kind of faded orange-gray at the haunches. The fox is trying to get to a bird feeder that is out of frame. So, to me that means, the fox is in a tree and going for the bird food, which suggests foxes are birds. It's just science. Foxes are birds. Nothing matters anyway, so foxes might as well be birds. Tell everyone. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig
Already the news is rather, um, effervescent this morning, so let's all just stop here and rest and enjoy this bird break, featuring a photo of what is definitely, absolutely a bird

All, I just saw someone post to bring up one topic per call for staffers.
Here's why I've consistently said it's not a good idea based on experience as a constituent affairs director (current staffers, feel free to correct me...! ):
If you call too much, you start developing a rep in the office.

Never going to stop shouting about this. You need to buy trans books now. Especially in hardcopy or DRM free formats.
Don't say "it'll never happen." Look around. It's already happening.

Copy editors don't need to know everything.
Copy editors simply need to possess constant curiosity, the instinct to look up things that smell even slightly off, the ability to listen to what a writer is doing before laying down the law, and a dictionary or two.
