The River Seven thwarted out visit to Odda's Chapel (C1086, #AngloSaxon Early #Medieval) , Deerhurst, Tewksbury, though the adjacent Church of St Mary is amazing.
My toy drone had a good view.
The flood water was getting up to the small hill that the chapel and church are on.

Aldingham Castle, South Furness, is an early #Medieval Motte and Bailey #castle that is slowly disappearing into Morecambe Bay.
Built in the C12th/C13th on an earlier C12 ringwork the site was abandoned in the C13th in favour of the moated site visible near the farm.

It's nice when a new #Roman practice camp pops up out of the woodwork, even when largely destroyed by modern (less than fifty years old) earthworks. This one is nice in that a couple of clavicular entrances can be seen.

Removing the buildings reveals the #Roman town of Camulodunum in all its glory.
The impressive Norman Castle earthwork covers the site of the Temple of Claudius, a major target during the Boudican revolt (60/61AD).

Kirk Hammerton, North Yorkshire, is a village hiding a secret.
Strip away the buildings with LiDAR there appears to be a 200m #Neolithic #Henge under the village.
Geophysics and excavations in some of the unbuilt area seem to confirm the banking and internal ditches.

A quick flyover the daddy of all Lime kilns here at the Hoffmann Lime Kiln of 1873 at the Craven Lime works, Settle, North Yorkshire.

Oakwell Hall is an Elizabethan Manor house in Birstall, West Yorkshire.
The house was built circa 1583 and incorporates a mid 15 century timber framed house.
The hall is featured in Charlotte Bronte's novel "Shirley" as "Fieldhead".
Built on a 12C ringwork, the 13C Kendal castle, Cumbria (Westmorland 😉) rises high above the town.
The castles most famous occupants were the Parr family, though the castle is believed to be disused by the time of Catherine's birth.

Tucked away on the north east corner of the Harewood estate, West Yorkshire, UK and now hidden in thick woodland is the 14C Harewood castle. It would have provided comfortably living for Sir William de Aldeburgh who was given a licence to crenellate in 1366.

Built between 1150 and 1170 the Norman Church of Saint John the Baptist in Adel, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England is described by Pevsner as "one of the best and most complete Norman churches in Yorkshire”.
It is notable for it's fine Southern doorway and carved heads around the roof & Chancel arch.
Stott Park bobbin mill, Newby Bridge, South Cumbria, UK is the only working bobbin mill in #Cumbria.
Built in the early 19th century it produced millions of bobbins for the cotton trade.
Here it is seen nestled in the woodlands that provided the raw material.
Now a museum.

The Augustinian Priory of circa 1189 of Cartmel, South Cumbria, with it's distinctive bell tower offset by 45 degrees lies at the centre of Cartmel village.

Levens Hall, Kent valley, Kendal, Cumbria is an Elizabethan mansion built around a 13th-century pele tower.
It has a stunning world-famous Topiary Gardens, laid out around 1694.
Well worth a visit.

Hexham Abbey, #Northumberland, is probably our favourite abbey.
Built on St. Wilfrid's Saxon crypt, itself built with Roman stones, the abbey walls are lined with #Roman and #Medieval stonework, including one of the largest Roman gravestones I've seen.
Cafe home to the world's finest scones.
Lordenshaw Multivalate #IronAge #hillfort, Rothbury, Northumberland, UK.
In addition to the hillfort, an additional earthwork can be seen coming up the hill and curling round the fort. This may be an additional (incomplete) defensive bank and ditch.

Alas not, It's run by English Heritage and all their sites along Hadrian's wall (Aydon is close to the wall) were shut. ☹️ Very disappointing.
Aydon Castle, Corbridge, Northumberland is one of the finest, and most complete, 13th century defended manor houses in the country.
Although attacked a number of times by the Scots in the 14th century it survived and was occupied until the 1960s.
