Starmer created this crisis by sacking a qualified and competent woman.
And when he sacked career diplomat Karen Pierce to give Mandelson her job, SIX other senior women diplomats left FCDO as their careers were doomed under his government.
He's done far worse, but I'm fine if this does for him.

In UK politics in 2026, there’s no such thing as a resigning issue.
Discuss.
There's a reason why Meta's employee keylogging plans are only being deployed in the US -- per experts we spoke to, this sort of monitoring would be illegal in much of Europe, where such monitoring is a violation of worker privacy.
In the US, most states don't even require notice of surveillance.
Meta will begin keystroke logging US employees at work -- complete with mouse movements and periodic screenshots -- to train better AI agents.
This comes after Boz posted about a future in which AI will "primarily do the work" at meta.
It's a new era for tech labor. www.reuters.com/sustainabili...
And yes, there’s something very wrong with friends saying to you ‘are there any jobs around’ if you’re in government.
It's my way or the fly-a-way
So let me get this fucking straight…
MAGA wants Trump reading the Bible in the Oval Office and the Ten Commandments in public schools, but the Pope should stay out of politics? Be fucking serious
Meta is logging its workers’ every keystroke to train the AI that will replace them.
Extract what workers know. Model it. Cut the workers.
This is happening because governments are letting it happen. On this. On Palantir. On facial recognition.
Inaction is still a choice. And someone is making it.

The voice ignored that, the started assuming I had just answered a question. There was a sound of typing too.
Then I realised it was an elaborate automated recording.
So I started giving "creative answers.
Be careful answering the phone people; never assume tge person on the other end is genuine...
Companies should only call me if I'm their customer so I started asking "If you're calling me you should know who you're speaking to. Please tell me who you think you're speaking to." However the voice kept speaking. It asked me questions & I kept saying "Tell me who you think you're talking to"...
So I was nearly taken in by a scam today on the phone.
A female voice rang me and said they were calling from some power authority and wanted to ask questions as a result of the fuel crisis.
I'm on a "Don't call me" list¹ so I was in my guard ...

Brexit has failed due to the Brits who sold it as an idea, the Brits who voted for it, the Brits who negotiated it, the Brits who implemented it and because it was a really shit idea brought about by hatred. It’s not due to remainers, the EU, COVID or Ukraine. Own it.
A color, macrophoto of a Robin perched on a branch in Virginia, during late April, 2026. The capture was taken during rain and the photographer snapped the photo at the split second a raindrop fell on the top of the bird's head, making it appear like a "natural" crown. 📸 Dawn Denise Boyer of Gloucester, Virginia

Right in the middle of rain, the photo was captured the split second a droplet of water landed on the #Robins head like a crown! 👑

Or in the FT. Because it's a deeply stupid point.
UK nominal GDP has overtaken India, probably temporarily, and driven entirely by exchange rate fluctuations (mostly the fall of the rupee, which has indeed been "sensational").
We have not grown faster than India - quite the opposite.
I'm watching the Jimmy Savile documentary on Netflix and it's remarkable how much it's actually about how Thatcherism hollowed out public institutions such as hospitals so that they came to rely on the largesse of private entrepreneurs who, now being indispensable, were able to act with impunity
"Legitimate concerns" is just a euphemism for "legitimising hate"
Refreshing...
AOC talking to RFK Jr. Her facial and hand gesture has the spiritual energy of that Italian hand gesture where you pinch your fingers and wave your hand (the "ma che vuo" gesture).
how it feels to say "sprezzatura"
I haven't seen any reference to this in the UK 'let's-not-give Labour-any credit-for-anything' media.
Amusingly pithy 😀
If you've ever wondered about this GOP being a cult...
In February 1777, General George Washington ordered the first mass immunization campaign in American history by mandating that his troops be inoculated against smallpox. He protected the Continental Army from an epidemic that was deadlier than British forces.
249 years later, we have this idiot.
Well let's see how this strategy of telling "white liberals" to "fuck right off" works out in the local elections
still can’t believe that given the choice between “bountiful, free, clean energy from the earth, wind, and sun” and “poisonous dead animal sludge price sensitive to global politics” we keep choosing the latter
Good. It’s easy to forget that climate change denial & shilling for fossil fuel companies provided a template for Tufton Street, Brexit & pretty much every egregious example of persuading populations to vote against their own interests. The story of Don Pearlman should be taught in kindergartens…
