I grew up in DuPage cty & that was how we pronounced it. My gramps was German. My brother still pronounces it that way.

I really need to spend more time:
A) Taking night sky photos
B) Getting on more adventures out west
C) Photographing anything to keep creating.

Until then, enjoy this photo from Badlands #NationalPark.

The President of the United States posted this.
That he will continue in office affirms that we are unfit to govern ourselves and our American experiment has failed.
Too many of us are too stupid, cowardly and damaged to be citizens of a republic, let alone our elected representatives.

3 ducklings and a duck box. One brown & yellow chick sits in the hole of the box. 1 chick is just visible by its beak in the lower left of the hole in the box. The 3rd chick had lept free of the box and is belly down, legs and little bitty wings are askance.

Here's my version. Hope it helps. Hooded merganser chicks. My backyard in northern Illinois.

A gray bird is standing on a branch with its back to the camera. It is bent all the way forward looking upside down through its leg at the photographer. The background is mottled green.

#BirdButt anyone? Obviously this Tufted Titmouse wanted to make sure I saw hers. #BirdoftheDay

**gently grabs your face**

Listen, the world is full of so many horrors--things out of our direct control. We do what we can, as we can. But there's no magick button labeled Fix This Now.

It's important to reach toward joy. Take your meds. Have a snack. Make plans. Laugh. Look at the damn moon.

A brown and greenish bird sits in a tree looking upwards. His feathers are very ruffled making it appear larger than it is. The background is green and the tree is dead and very twiggy.

A very #ruffledfeathers version of a Little Green Heron for #BirdoftheDay.

An adult speckled black & brown birds clings to the side of a tree next to his nest hole. Two of his 3 chicks are poking their heads out of the hole and have their beaks open begging for food

A Northern flicker with his 2 ready to fledge chicks. I spent hours watching & photographing. A highlight of the lockdown summer of 2020. #BirdoftheDay 🪶

The US Constitution only works when it is a guide for honest, responsible citizens—both in control of government and at the voting booths.

We currently don’t have enough of them to make that work.

This increase in gas prices isn’t just a minor annoyance for people. This means someone won’t be able to give their kid a birthday party, or visit their sister after they got into a car accident. There are real life consequences for this.

Humans have become a force of nature!
20K years ago we emerged out of the ice age. Temps climbed gradually over ~12K years… then stabilized for 10K years. That’s when & why modern humans have thrived. But 150 years ago the rate of change abruptly changed… 1/

A small yellow bird with a black cap sits on a long stemmed flower with a white fluffy seed in his beak facing to the viewer's left. Next to and slightly above him are two rounded purple flowers leaning towards him. One other dried flower tips downward to the right and below the purple flowers. The background is blurred green.

Very dreary day today - 38F and rain - so I really appreciate today's #BirdoftheDay theme of #yellow. May this brighten your day like it did mine. Male American goldfinch on thistle.
