3. Commitments do not always match delivery:
The UK and Canada both initially committed to more policies than delivered, sometimes entirely different ones. Some jurisdictions took a more cohesively strategic approach to implementation (like Australia), and others more fragmented (like Canada).
Countries committed to finance rules as part of climate plans. Implementation is, however, mixed. Sharing at last research I completed: How do Canada, Australia, EU, and UK compare to each other on climate-related finance policy? Do they connect it to climate plans?

#MEDIA New report 🚨 Fossil fuel lobbyists met with federal officials 986 times in 2025 nearly 4 times per workday. Even with an election lull Big Oil’s influence on government decision making remains strong 🌍🔥 #cdnpoli #climate bit.ly/4rQbXYU
What is Premier Smith's motivation for such heavy-handed, anti-industry, anti-investment policies? ATCO is also one of Canada's largest commercial and residential gas providers, so it doesn't make sense that the Premier is deaf to their concerns. What's the story here?

Wow, great @nytimes.com piece on the toxic tar sands tailings, their harms to downstream Nations, and Indigenous pushback against this dirty industry to protect their peoples and territories:
www.nytimes.com/2026/03/10/h...
#Media: "This tailings remediation announcement represents a very small drop into a 1.7 trillion litre bucket, and not a serious attempt to clean up an industry with billions of dollars of toxic liabilities sitting on its balance sheets." Full statement: environmentaldefence.ca/2026/03/06/j...
#Toronto has a chance to lead on clean energy — but provincial energy planning still prioritizes fossil gas and nuclear over local #renewables and storage. My new blog breaks down the decisions on the table and why they matter for our #climate and community👇 environmentaldefence.ca/2026/02/10/t...
I'm very pleased to present New Frontiers, an energy transition guide for Alberta. This first-of-its-kind document maps out how Canada's most oil-dependent province can end its reliance on crude oil royalties. environmentaldefence.ca/report/new-f... #energytransition
Canada's parliament finished a 2-year study about sustainable finance and published 5 recommendations. It is excellent. This study is a feat!
Sixty global experts were questioned, highlighting climate risks in Canada and a lag behind many other peer jurisdictions. www.ourcommons.ca/documentview...
#Media: "As other countries and states take quick regulatory action to phase out #PFAS in products, #Canada needs to catch up—or risk being left behind." Read our full joint statement 👇

#Media: Today’s decision by the Federal Court of Appeal is excellent news for a planet awash in #plasticpollution. The court confirmed the federal government is justified in declaring plastics toxic in order to address the pollution they cause. Full statement:

The 1st new oil sands operation in 8 years is now online, extracting 45,000 barrels per day. Over the course of the year, that means about 1.1 million tonnes CO₂e/year. Add that to Alberta's 260 mega tonnes and the trend line continues to move in the wrong direction. energynow.com/2026/01/rare...
This issue isn't refinery capacity, it's the available market. Building a refinery in Alberta would take a decade and cost billions, all while the world slowly but surely evolves away from oil and toward renewables. energynow.ca/2026/01/eby-...

#Media: We welcome the federal government’s decision to close regulatory loopholes on some toxic PFAS and flame retardants, and phase certain toxic substances out of everyday products. Read our full statement: environmentaldefence.ca/2026/01/06/s...
#MEDIA: Ontario’s energy path is a warning — not a model. A nuclear-heavy plan is locking in more fossil gas for decades, driving up costs and delaying climate action. New York shouldn’t repeat the mistake.

#MEDIA🚨 Big Oil’s playbook revealed! Our new illustrated backgrounder exposes the 10 tactics the fossil fuel industry uses to delay climate action and keep Canada hooked on oil and gas 🌍🔥Check it out here environmentaldefence.ca/report/drawn...
#MEDIA: Canada’s updated methane rules fall short.
Methane is 80x more potent than CO₂ in the near term, and companies already say near-zero by 2030 is possible. Delays to 2028+ and weaker standards risk real climate progress.

#MEDIA: Big clean-energy win in Ottawa 🎉
City Council voted 21–4 to approve zoning for the city’s largest-ever battery storage project — a major step toward affordable, reliable, low-carbon power.

Truly horrifying - infant deaths doubled with increased maternal PFAS exposures.
We need to phase this stuff out now, and stop letting the dirty chemical industry get away with this.
Canada needs to resist the PFAS lobby and expedite rules on their toxic products.

#MEDIA: IEA’s #WEO2025 shows net-zero by 2050 is within reach — but fossil fuel expansion is holding us back. Canada must choose the path to a clean, affordable energy future. Read our statement here environmentaldefence.ca/2025/11/12/i...
#MEDIA: A broad coalition is urging Toronto City Council to reject the province’s fossil-fuel-heavy energy plan. It locks residents into decades of pollution, ignores local climate goals, and sidelines clean, affordable solutions.
