I love the comparative approach here.
I think this is the way to go !
Again highlights the modularity of developmental processes
Keeping the tempo of the clock the same but playing with initial conditions leads to variation in somite number.
Really cool work !
Love the strong scaling of ZGA timing to genome size and egg volume. It's so simple and elegant.
Highlights the strength of taking a comparative approach
Thank you Sergio ๐๐
Thank you Kristina <3...haha first eel preprint next week ๐
Congrats Sergio !
So well deserved.
I know ! Heidelberg is ๐ and would be great to see everyone again.
Days are complicated though, might be traveling but I'll try my best !
Hopefully yes ! I really want to make it
Thank you so much Doro !
I'm so happy for us !

Super happy that I will start alongside another Emmy-Noether funded colleague and friend at the University of Freiburg @joshifrenster.bsky.social. Please check out his lab website and apply ! #TeamFreiburg
Thanks to the many researchers whose generosity, kindness and feedback contributed to this success.
I also want to thank members of the Faculty of Biology and CIBSS for making this transition as smooth as possible; Wolfgang Driever, Sonja Albers, Jurgen Vehn, Anne Classen and Roland Nitchke.
Immensely grateful for the @dfg.de and the Emmy-Noether programme evaluators for funding this ambitious work.
This would not have been possible without the constant help and support of my mentors over the years: Alexander Aulehla, Ewan Birney, Lazaro Centanin, Jochen Wittbrodt and Kiyoshi Naruse.
Very happy to announce that I will be joining the Faculty of Biology & @cibss.bsky.social at @uni-freiburg.de as an Emmy-Noether funded group leader.
We will tackle the molecular and genetic basis of developmental timing and size control using diverse Oryzias species. We are hiring at all levels !
The Frenster Lab is here! ๐พ I am so excited to start my #EmmyNoether funded group at @uni-freiburg.de this summer. Our group studies #CellCompetition dynamics during embryonic development using #gastruloids from multiple species. Thanks to the @dfg.de for creating this opportunity! FrensterLab.com

MBE | Genomic consequences of domestication and the diversification of body coloration and morphology in ornamental medaka strains
Kon et al. performed WGS on 181 individuals of 86 ornamental Japanese medaka strains, tracing their origin to the KansaiโSetouchi region, and uncovered 3,328 genes associated with 26 phenotypes.

Excellent from Iza Ding on the Gaokao.
"Chinaโs gaokao factories and Americaโs college-industrial complex are not accidents. They are the logical outcome of a global system that has mistaken education for investment and human life for capital."

I think this is just a reflection of Merz's background in global finance, nothing more.
Pretty boring lack of vision, like the man himself.
Could you also post Adam Tooze's winter lecture please ?
This is really cool !
Congratulations Ido !
So well deserved !
Such an exciting research direction.
Congrats Mike !

The Sahel region (and sub-Saharan Africa generally) are so underrepresented.
Given this region currently has the fastest population growth rates globally, that seems entirely unjustifiable.
Great work by Ido and team !
