It's why Blair knew he had to get Murdoch onside if he wanted to succeed as a PM.
Now we can argue about whether he actually did succeed but we can't argue that he had a more comfortable time than has Starmer.
Every cloud has a silver lining..
This isn't about Starmer.
It never was about Starmer.
Change to Rayner, they go after Rayner.
Change to Streeting, they go after Streeting.
Change to Burnham, they go after him.
Etc. etc.
See the pattern?
It's not about individuals, it's about Labour.
But both faced another hurdle - the requirement to get permission for changes from voters.
California got it. Last night Virginia also won that vote.
So what is the net impact?
In a war the Republicans started, they come out of it with a net loss of 1 seat going into the election!
Oh dear!

Grrr, now I have to have a go....π₯Ί
The problem for Labour,as it's always been, is the party is hugely disliked by the main stream media.
Make no bones about it, this isn't about Starmer per se, it's about Labour.
Blair, for all his faults, knew that to get on and get things done, he had to get media on his side.
Killer response...

Absolutely correct.
You could have the same reporter ringing three times, each an hour apart, and you'll get three different quotes.
Unfortunately, the press care not a jot about the accuracy, the quote is what counts.
As I have said before my sense is our institutions are compromised. I can see why they got the dark Lord to deal with the orange king. The vetting thing looks like internal skulduggery. I mean Johnson failed vetting to foreign sec but he was still appointed and thereβs a Russian operative in the HOL
Poetic in its simplicity and accuracy.
Doggy question.
Why is it that even though < 10% of the whole ground floor is carpeted, your pup chooses that one small spot in which to throw up.
It's rhetorical,btw.
James, we might need a new 'Daniel Hannan' day to commemorate the day he actually got something right..

I hope she doesn't take it the wrong way but I actually enjoy Emma getting annoyed at ridiculous headlines such as this...
We get to read her brilliant debunks.π
Me too!

Good stuff. Killer last sentence.
Any news on Mason's thumb?
That looked season ending to me

I remember about 10 years back we had a Brazilian family move in next door and we had about 4" of snow and even now I can hear the laughter and sheer joy on the faces of the young kidsπ
They were 4 + 6 and had never seen snow.
Twas brilliant.
Where do you live, 1965?
I wonder if all those that made a killing out of yesterday's announcement will be paying the money back...
Today's Wordle reminds me of Trump's cabinet...
How many grammar police does it takes to change a lightbulb?
Too.
Kemi Badenoch has commended Milei's economic programme and austerity measures for *lowering* inflation.
She said she'd use Milei as a political βtemplateβ for state reform and that she sees "the world through a similar lensβ to him.
Such is the desperate state of the post-Johnson Tory Party.
Yet another brilliant deep dive by Emma.
