A scenic landscape photo shows a vibrant blue sea with clear blue sky, on the right is a white blooming cherry tree.
View from a cliff looking down over calm blue water, with pine trees and a white-blossoming tree in the foreground. A boat leaves is visable trail and is seen in between the trees.
Several jellyfish floating near the surface of the sea.
Summer preview and some nice seaside vibes - always clears my head.

Good video on the XZ SSH hack, which could have been the worst ever. Covers open source/Linux history, SSH auth and compression. Shows how a PostgreSQL developer noticed it and "saved the world." Longer video, but well explained and made for those that are interested.

Amazing points here. As a music collector, I can only say that hunting for vinyl and browsing new releases on Bandcamp can bring magic back to music discovery. Artists also get far more than on those streaming platforms. Win‑win.

This is amazing news! I love reading your work.
New breach: SoundCloud had 30M email addresses mapped to public profile data last month including name, username, follower count and in some cases, country. 67% were already in @haveibeenpwned.com. Read more: haveibeenpwned.com/Breach/Sound...
Unfortunately, this is confirmed news.
Not remotely what you want to see. Wishing everyone at NI the best in a tough time, and hoping that in the restructuring process, the tools find a good home. Details:

Decided to spin up #Linux ( #Fedora #KDE) on my wife's old Mac. It's a #MacBook Pro 15 from 2014. It was abandoned by Apple, getting no updates and was running super slow. But an i7 and 16GB of RAM sounded plenty to me. Turns out, it now runs and feels snappier than my MacBook Pro from 2019. 🚀
A thorough (though slightly dated) article on hardening Signal and adjusting phone settings by @privacyguides.org (www.privacyguides.org/articles/202...) can be an excellent starting point. They also mention an enhanced fork of Signal, Molly (molly.im), which some people might find useful. #privacy
Taking this bridge and the route by the water down to Muiderslot is one of the nicest day trips from Amsterdam. It can be easily done with an old 'omafiets' as we did with my wife:
One thing I like to do is collect quirky, fascinating sites. Like this one, that features 5 million YouTube videos, made between 2009 and 2012 when iPhones simply send videos with a filename IMG_XXXX.

During the AWS outage, Eight Sleep mattresses went rogue 🛌
They woke people up with flashing lights, cranked heat to high levels, and locked into upright positions.
Welcome to 2025, where your subscription mattress freaks out because servers went down.

The thing that makes Star Trek utopian isn’t the end of scarcity or the harmony between all peoples it’s also that the guy on the ship who gets laid the most plays the trombone at work and periodically does community theater

Schleswig‑Holstein’s digital minister reveals why open‑source migration matters: vendor lock‑in threatens security, change‑management—not tech—is the real hurdle, budgets shift from licences to dev/training, and open standards like ODF trump any single app. #OpenSource
