Opinion | This Problem Is Easy to Solve

Millions of lives are at risk by closing down USAID. @nickkristof.bsky.social never gets tired of explaing it: “it is easy to solve. There are many, evidence-based inexpensive nutritional steps that could save many lives, and some are astonishingly low-tech” www.nytimes.com/2025/06/18/o...

Children are dying because of the USAID cuts. And more will die when the aid cuts that other donors have announced will kick in and when the rippling effects of the shutdown of malnutrition-, vaccination- and antenatal care programs will be felt.

So true and so sad @nickkristof.bsky.social

Opinion | Musk Said No One Has Died Since Aid Was Cut. That Isn’t True. (Gift Article) A journey through the front lines of global poverty shows that when the world’s richest men slash aid for the world’s poorest children, the result is sickness, starvation and death.

Elon Musk says that no one has died because he slashed humanitarian aid. I went to South Sudan to check if that's true. It's not. Meet Peter, Achol and Evan, ages 10, 8 and 5. The reckless actions of the world's richest men are killing the world's poorest kids www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Strengthening Nutrition for Growth Commitments Across the Nutrition Data Value Chain
Strengthening Nutrition for Growth Commitments Across the Nutrition Data Value Chain The Micronutrient Data Innovation Alliance (DInA), a program of the Micronutrient Forum, together with the Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN), and DataDENT hosted this 90-minute webinar on February 11, 2025. The session explored strategies for securing commitments at the Nutrition for Growth Summit in Paris (March 2025) to support nutrition data and drive actionable policies and programs for achieving global nutrition targets by 2030.

Opinion | The World’s Richest Men Take On the World’s Poorest Children I’ve seen U.S.A.I.D. operate around the world, and it’s not woke — it’s lifesaving.

“To billionaires in the White House, it may seem like a game. But to anyone with a heart, it’s about children’s lives and our own security, and what’s unfolding is sickening.”

@nickkristof.bsky.social nailed it. And the rippling effects will be felt for generations. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/o...

How Trump’s US aid stop-work order affects global food aid Everything we could glean about the chaos the 90-day aid pause has caused for U.S-funded food, nutrition, and agriculture programs.

An absolute disaster in the making! Child malnutrition and related deaths will explode. The world’s most vulnerable are again paying the price. Time to be #StandingtogetherforNutrition again. www.devex.com/news/how-tru...

Opinion | The World Is a Mess, and It’s Still the Best Time to Be Alive What matters isn’t so much a Trump rant as that children are less likely to die now than at any other time in the history of the world.

“The worst thing that could happen is to lose a child. And 2024 appears to have been the year in which the smallest percentage of children died since the dawn of humanity.” @nickkristof.bsky.social putting much needed perspective to keep focus on all that goes well. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Many of us can save a child’s life, if we rely on the best data There are many ways to improve the world, but their cost-effectiveness varies immensely. You can achieve a lot more if you rely on the best data on where to donate.

What is an important fact about the world that you wish more people would know?

Here is my answer: If we rely on the best data, many of us can save a child's life.

And here is my article about it.

A chart in three parts showing data on child mortality to make the points that "The world is awful. The world is much better. The world can be much better. All three statements are true at the same time."

The world is awful. The world is much better. The world can be much better.

All three statements are true at the same time. Understanding this is key to solving big global problems.

We believe data & research can help us understand both the problems we face & the progress that’s possible. 🧵
