My MC would fight back with the power of music! The sort of music that can lull a creature to sleep, or make it forget why it came here in the first place, or compel it to attack its allies or return from whence it came.

Oh wow, Iria! Takes me back to the days when my boyfriend would buy Anime on VHS at Media Play…
Hey, I may not agree with you about the best cabin but from one ADHD mess to another, bring on all the romantic portal fantasy!
A tall woman with long black hair wearing a white gown stands in the middle of a temple. Behind her are two goddess statues and an obelisk.
I am working on my ancient history & mythology inspired WIP because I realized it was a perfect vehicle for my interest in archaeology and history. But, y’know, in a world where the goddess of love can give her trans woman avatar a body that matches her inner self.
Taro or Red bean for me!
Thank you! I cheat by using posing models in the software I use (Clip Studio Paint).
Hi #CampRevPit! I’m Erina, and I am working on an adult fantasy novel with the working title Divine Vessels. It features captive gods who choose humans to dwell in and stars not the rebellious princess but the woman who looks after her.

I am second-guessing now whether applying an etching filter to a photo for a background counts as AI usage. Do you have a ruling on this?
I remember that because I had pet gerbils at the time.
Somehow the only animal I am NOT allergic to is cats. I took an allergy test years ago and I’m allergic to dogs, gerbils, and horses, but somehow cats are find.
A cry for help convinces the widowed Kasetris her husband is alive. With the help of the god who dwells inside her, she will descend into the underworld to find him—and rekindle the failed rebellion that ended in his presumed death.

18yo Vreta fears her mind magic will take her down a dark path. But when she discovers a young girl’s memories have been stolen by a ruthless duchess, her power is key to restoring what’s been lost. And she can’t help falling for the girl’s brother…
Thank you for the in-depth reply, I appreciate it!
For some writers it may be helpful to put more of the responsibility on themselves and less blame on others, so I shouldn’t judge advice just because it’s not helpful to me personally. But for me it drags me into a trap of “I am not good enough and do not deserve success.”
I don’t disagree! But when we put all the onus on the individual and don’t take into account the effects of the system, we’re missing part of the picture.
I don’t think anyone would disagree that agents and editors are struggling, just like authors. Society is devaluing creative work.
I think she makes some good points but more than one thing can be true at the same time. Yes, there’s always more we can do as authors to improve ourselves and our chances. And I am the first to blame myself when things go wrong. But there are always going to be things that are beyond our control.
I have been considering hiring an editor, but my concern is that if an editor I was interested in didn’t even shortlist my book, should I take that as meaning they’re not interested in working on it? Ideally I’d like to work with someone who does connect with my work to some extent at least.
I am 43 and I still don’t “get” Tiktok but Discord came pretty naturally to me. It feels like a natural evolution of the chatrooms on AOL I joined as a teenager.
You say it will take “a while” but you hope to have all emails sent by April 20? That’s a lightning-fast turnaround time! Thank you, I will be keeping an eye on my inbox!
Hey, #RevPitWaiting — you wrote a whole BOOK! Know how many people want to write a book? Pretty much everybody. How many people actually go through with it? Not many. So rest on your laurels for a little bit. Then write the next one. No matter what happens you’ve learned something already.
Okay, fine, I’ll post a hero with a sword, but I’m not gonna tell anyone else what to do.
I try to plan and outline in advance but I need to be dragged into it kicking and screaming. It’s hard for me to get a feel for characters and story when I am looking at the big picture, I need to be in the scene. But once I write a couple chapters I get a better sense of where I’m going.
The difficulty for me is finding the art I haven’t already oversaturated my bluesky with! Here are a few character drawings I’ve done for Stolen Magic, more info in the alt text.

One of my beta readers, the amazing and multi-talented @erinabecca.bsky.social, made these super cool portraits of my characters from my #RevPit novel, Anti-Charter Campaign.
Check out Britt, Catherine, Susanne, and Angelo ❤️
It was so much fun to see them through her eyes!

Oh, wow. My father attended Caltech as well in the 60s (didn’t graduate, though) and I didn’t even know it was all male at the time.
I do most of my writing at my day job, and I can’t share a picture of my desk there, but occasionally I do some writing at home with feline assistance.
The cat is named Muppet and he was born under the back steps of my old house. He will be 19 in September.

I said in my writing group today:
Writing is hard and frustrating and sometimes it makes me hate myself but I will be COLD AND DEAD IN MY GRAVE before I use AI to do it for me.

Are you saying my pet frogs have been lying to me?
The frogs aren’t ready to learn about the human thing, either.
