We gave a worm brain control of a fly body and it walked
What did we learn? Nothing, other than deep reinforcement learning is effective
We call it the digital sphinx

How do neural circuits generate the walking rhythm?
Using connectome simulations, @sarahpugly.bsky.social found a minimal central pattern generator (CPG) that produces oscillations in leg motor neurons. Same circuit motif for each 🪰 leg.

Two weeks left to apply! MIT's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor, working with nonhuman animals in some way. Application deadline is Dec. 1. Full posting: academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/30586
I hear you, and I agree the balance is not where it should be. One thing I already learned from organizing is to consider how timing can be a source of bias. I think our timing over the holidays likely contributed to the speaker list skew and we should have done more to consider this when planning
There are still a few days left to apply for the San Juan Winter School on Connectomics and Brain Simulation!
Apply by October 24th! sjcabs.com
The Shanahan Fellowship is a unique PostDoc opportunity at the intersection of Neuroscience and Data Science. If you are considering a PostDoc in this area, I encourage you to apply!
Applications are open! And due by Dec 1st

Thank you, Davi!
Excited to share more widely: I am starting the Dorkenwald Lab at MIT (McGovern Institute + BCS) in January 2026. We study the organizational principles of neuronal circuits using connectomics.
And we are hiring postdocs & tech associates! dorkenwaldlab.com/join
Exciting news for #drosophila #connectomics and #neuroscience enthusiasts: the Drosophila male central nervous system connectome is now live for exploration. Find out more at the landing page hosted by our Janelia FlyEM collaborators www.janelia.org/project-team....
