A peek inside the nursery 👀 Our #aspen trees are flowering! 🎉
In #Scotland, aspens rarely flower or set seed naturally. That’s why we’ve created a carefully managed ‘seed stand’ in our polytunnel, helping to encourage #seed production.

💧 Leth-allt means ‘half stream’ - a burn with one high bank. Knowing this would have been vital when moving through the landscape with animals and crossing streams.
#Gaelic place names carry deep knowledge of the land, describing its features and sharing practical insight shaped by #generations.
💧 Allt means a stream or burn, narrower than an abhainn (river), such as Abhainn Mhoireasdan, the River Moriston beside the estate.
💧 Caochan describes a small stream that disappears from view along its course - as Caochan na Sgochraich does, cutting a notch through the landscape.
The streams and rivers of Dundreggan 💧 #Gaelic has many more words than English for describing and connecting with the #landscape - from hills and bogs to different types of rivers and streams.
At Dundreggan, you’ll find several of these in our place names: Allt, Caochan and Leth-allt. [continued]
Thank you to supporters who have been on this journey with us – your support, donations, and advocacy for nature has made this happen. 🙌

These four beavers join the seven reintroduced last October and are settling into their new home. Glen Affric provides plenty of #habitat for them to integrate into the local ecosystem. Their activity will create and enhance habitats for a wide variety of plants and animals.
Trees for Life has been working in partnership with Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS), which manages the reserve, on the initiative since 2022, supported by @beavertrust.bsky.social 🦫The project has included three phases of extensive consultations with local #communities and land managers.
Alan McDonnell, our Head of Nature Restoration, said: “The return of beavers to Glen Affric is a #wildlife success story four centuries in the making – a project with strong local community #volunteer involvement, offering hope...and a better future for biodiversity and people.”
We’re thrilled to share that another #beaver release took place in #GlenAffric National Nature Reserve last week, as a family of four was welcomed to Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin. 🦫

A is for ailm which is associated with elm as well as pine
Every letter in the Gaelic alphabet is linked to a tree. 🌳 The very structure of the language reflects a deep connection between people and the natural world, and an understanding of the practical and cultural importance of trees.
