New 'elbows up' just dropped: Protecting our sovereignty by destroying our capacity to tell our country's history.
Ask any Canadian historian and they will tell you that things were already extremely dire at Library and Archives Canada. Not sure it will even be functional after this.

I like doing/hearing stripped back acoustic versions with pedals as needed (delay, reverb and maybe a distortion pedal) which helps to fill the negative space. Tossed around the idea of playing synth for a few too, but prefer a simple set-up.

Checking out the new @subvert.fm platformn I'm actually excited for this. I've followed a few bandcamp alternatives over the years and this one hits all the marks for me. Artist co-op, simple layout, seems to work well too. Anyone else been checking out their alpha platform launch?
Oh good. I was beginning to wonder if Eurovision was the music budget. 48 mil over 3 years means no increase in funding from 2024/25 but it’s not gone. Thanks in part from pressure from the Canadian Indie Music Association and working musicians. www.cimamusic.ca/news/cima-re...
If you’re worried about hurting artists by boycotting Spotify—don’t. They pay musicians 0.0003 per stream (on the high end) and support fascists. Go see bands play live, buy their merch, collect physical media. That’s how you support artists and tell knee-bending oligarch fascists to eat shit.

Fun fact: all the technology for listening to music that existed before streaming - still exists.
I’ve been testing the small French streaming service Qobuz for the last month, considering finally dumping Spotify. One reason I’m drawn to Qobuz is that it’s a smaller operation with seemingly good intentions. … 🧵 (1/10)
Great thread, I’ll add that as an artist it’s a bit frustrating to update your profile, add photo, bio or make changes to catalog errors remove dbl profiles etc. You need to go through their AI assistant to reach a human and it’s a long wait (days weeks) for tech support. Still better than Spotify.

V good post here detailing the PR strategy of companies and most importantly, how they're winning flat out right now ->

The thing about this site is that I’ve been able to find all these different spaces to share and find music. I’ve got some free download codes for my song Echo up on GetMusic for anyone curious or in need of a new listen.

“Decolonially trained AI” eh? They promoted this AI to extract from an decolonial lens I guess? Fired up 47 coal power plants and extract a 7 lakes of drinking water to cool the data centre down for that eh? Then scraped all that ethical source material nobody remembers agreeing to share?
For those curious, this is the description of the session being led by an AI at Eden Mills (it's also the first event of the festival in the program after the launch party). the "fellow co-weaver" is the ED of the foundation that provided funding to create the chatGPT powered AI that wrote the "book
George Mundy working on Mission Control’s electronics, as seen in the Grateful Dead Movie (1977)
Big RIP to George Mundy, who designed the electronics of Phil Lesh’s “Osiris,” aka “Mission Control” bass, itself a quadraphonic limb of the Wall of Sound. A one of a kind instrument.
Thanks for your work in the search for the sound, George.

I wrote about the WeTransfer terms of service and the criticism about the licensing rights in reference to large language models: www.artnews.com/art-news/new...
WeTransfer just changed their TOS giving themselves permission to train AI on any content you transfer and produce derivative works based on content you transfer that they are allowed to monetize and you are not allowed payment for.
Stop using WeTransfer.
Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek, becomes chairman of Al military start-up after €600 million investment
Parasite becomes aggressive.
Sure all the musicians looking at our £0.0003 Spotify payouts for our work are delighted this is what our fans’ money went towards instead, and the fans equally pleased.
Artists are always very in favour of war, traditionally.
Has anyone written about the intersection between Bill C-2 and Bill C-5? They are directly related but I haven't really seen anyone analyze that. Bill C-2 creates extra surveillance powers to further criminalize Indigenous people (and allies) resisting the "national interest" projects C-5 enables.
