The #TransitCat of the day says: only short bike trips today.💜

Reallocate road space from people to cars.
Move cars, not people.
If we don't imagine a better world, where this could be Providence, who will?
Sure you've pled guilty to reckless endangerment with a gun at least 4 times before, you're not allowed to have a gun, and the gun doesn't have the required safety equipment, but we'll let you go free, with the gun, until your trial date.
But why was a driver charged with
▪️DUI (at least the 5th time)
▪️on a revoked license
▪️without the required ignition interlock
even free to be out driving their vehicle, while awaiting trial?
IIRC, drivers involved in fatal crashes are more likely to have had previous driving offenses (especially excessive speed and DUI).
National Library Workers Day: Libraries Work Because We Do. April 21, 2026. ALA-APA logo
It's National Library Workers Day, our favorite day of #NationalLibraryWeek where we celebrate the hardworking, dedicated professionals who power possibility in our neighborhoods, our schools, and our places of higher learning.
Thank you, library workers - libraries work because YOU do! #NLWD26
And deaths that occur more than a month after a crash are not coded as fatalities. It leads to traffic fatalities being undercounted.
Sidewalk / bike path size snow plow, with tracks and a cabin for the operator, pushing snow. Very cute.
same for snow plows!
Bike lane snow plows are cuter than road snow plows, just saying.
June 2009 Google Streetview of the northwest corner of Georgia Avenue at Forest Glen Road, next to the Forest Glen Metro station. The first Streetview where the two beg button poles are there.
Some time between December 2007 and June 2009.
So many layers of the classic "the person or persons who designed this have never walked or ridden a bike anywhere, or been disabled and are profoundly unable to imagine being such a road user"
Coming back to this with the profound wish that they would actually carry out the full spectrum of actions for prevention.
The critically-injured other driver spent a month at Maryland Shock Trauma before dying.
The fatally-injured driver should have been a former driver.

Nobody has mentioned it, but one reason it is so important that people do not hit and run is that a hit and run can delay emergency response, especially if other drivers do not see the crash
Bicyclist and pedestrian deaths are more likely to involve a hit and run data.bikeleague.org/new-nhtsa-da...
Google Streetview image that shows all of the objects blocking the sidewalk on the northwest corner of Georgia Avenue and Forest Glen Road, next to the Forest Glen Metro station. There are a lot of objects. Two utility poles, two beg button signal poles, a traffic signal pole, a signal cabinet, and an electric meter. Or there might be even more, who knows.
It was difficult to choose the Streetview image that best displayed the full horror of this corner.
A longtime MoCo resident says there didn't used to be a sidewalk on this side of Parklawn Dr.
Presumably it would have cost too much to also move the fire hydrants, when the sidewalk was built.🤷
Utility poles trying out along an interstate highway, in the middle of the travel lanes.
The highway/traffic engineers who approved that would never allow utility poles in the middle of motorist space. “That’s unsafe!” they would scream.
How about fire hydrants? bsky.app/profile/actf...

Google Streetview of a utility pole, signal cabinet, electric meter, at least one beg button pole, etc etc etc, blocking the sidewalk on the northwest side of the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Forest Glen Road, next to the Forest Glen Metro station.
There's also this stuff blocking the already narrow sidewalk, next to the Forest Glen Metro station...
The ADA Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG, 2024) require 48" of continuous clear width, measured from the edge of the obstruction, exclusive of the width of any curb.

Pieces of a car wreck sitting on a narrow sidewalk
I guess these remnants of a car wreck are just gonna sit here blocking the already narrow sidewalk across from the Forest Glen metro station until they rot. @actfortransit.bsky.social

Having those little convos and making yourself the person who somebody knows who does a thing, can change minds! I used to drink out of a mug with my neighborhood’s name on it at my job in St. Louis bc it gave me the opportunity to have the “oh yeah I live on the north side 😊!” convo w so many ppl
Relatedly, you can push back on motonormativity by bringing your bike helmet in with you.
Interested person: Did you bike here?
You: Yes.
Is the vehicle going to jail too?
