At #RMRRF (BIG 3D printing festival this weekend in Loveland, CO) I caught Zack Freedman (Voidstar Lab)'s talk about creating Gridfinity and it was amazing: the central tenet is creating something so free that it no longer needs you. It made me think a lot about the future of my own projects.
Exaaactly
I totally feel this when I see people say PicoIDE or PicoGUS is expensive and they can make one for less. That's true, and that's why they're open source for people with the expertise and resources to do that. But some folks want to just buy something, and in my experience, there's way more of them.
Wish I was there!
Good ol' north american wiring colors!
In 1994 when I was in 8th grade I was talking to a friend about careers. He said he wanted to get into computer engineering instead of computer science because computers would learn to program themselves sooner than they’ll be able to design themselves. I’ve been thinking about that a lot recently.
I’m pretty sure I saw both of these being traded when I was in elementary school 😅
[Carrying Assembly for Roland MIDI Devices]
These devices stack nicely, but unfortunately slide around too easily, making it precarious to operate or move around🤔
This solution resembles the Sharp X68000 with parts and options to fit your personal taste😌

I was bummed the 74XX YouTube channel hadn't uploaded in a while but today was blessed with this amazing video that starts with finding some Wild Gunman film reels and ends with an amazing recreation of the original game. Probably my favorite low sub channel! www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOfq...
CITY MUSEUM! One of the most magical places in the world.
Next, going up to the top of the Arch is as touristy as it gets in STL but is worth it for the strange pod system that gets you up there. And then STL is also a great food city.
The latest PicoGUS firmware update was a huge fail - lots of breakage everywhere. I rushed its release, and it shows. I'm really starved for time between helping the kids with homework most nights, work on getting PicoIDE to full production, and a demanding day job. I wonder what has to give.
Sorry, had to pull the release. Definite breaking issues with this one. Apologies for rushing this one!
Apparently there’s a regression in this release with loading/listing CD images that doesn’t appear with the USB stick I normally use, so that’ll be fun to track down.
PicoGUS v4.1.0 firmware is released: github.com/polpo/picogu...
Highlights:
- ADPCM support in SB mode
- pgusinit won't complain your BLASTER variable is malformed (unless it actually is)
- Revamped MPU-401 that acts more like a real MPU-401 and uses way less SRAM
and more in the changelog!
Thanks for reminding me of this, as it turns out I can't use the ADPCM code in DOSbox or 86Box as-is because they're GPL, so I used your excellent comments as a reference. Seems to work great!
It’s good reading!
Trying not to get my hopes up too much, but this feels like it's actually possible!
Same. Coming up on year four off that site and have never regretted leaving it
Oh nice, I’ll have to print this for my X1FD in case I ever get it working…
no, I'm not jealous of the fact that there's actually still snow where you are
Eject button hole for the usb port is brilliant
Back with another stream! I drug the 486 out again, so let's play some DOS games, and maybe test out the new SB16 mode on the PicoGUS!
Starting tonight at 8 PM CT

We have a beverage dispensing machine at work that lets you pick sparkling, semi-sparkling, still, or hot water, and optionally add flavor to it. It shows stats for which flavors are popular but not for the type of water itself! Otherwise I could give you some hard data 😅
I'd say it's definitely more popular here in the US than it has been in the past. But probably not at Germany levels yet 😄
I remember visiting Germany in the late 90s and needing to remember to order water ohne Kohlensäure because I didn't like it then. But I love carbonated water now!
I also thought it was sitting on sand. Maybe I need new glasses… 😄
The Seventh Seal by Scott Walker. I immediately recognized how weird and genius the singer was. It was on the noisy radio in my 1992 Ford Ranger tuned to the local college radio station. I called the DJ at the station and asked wtf that amazing song was. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMUk...
It does support signed 8-bit PCM (it technically supports any combination of 8/16 bit, signed/unsigned, stereo/mono, even though the original SB16 didn’t). It still doesn’t support the original SB’s ADPCM modes, but we should be able to finally add that.
#PicoGUS can now emulate Sound Blaster 16 with the newly released firmware v4.0.0! Other changes include CD-ROM speed and reliability improvements, GUS mode improvements, and more. Check the full changelog and download the release at github.com/polpo/picogu...
