When I said #PicoGUS wasn’t being left behind, I wasnt joking! This is a regular ol’ PicoGUS being a Sound Blaster 16, detected and working in Windows 98:
Just because I’m deep in getting #PicoIDE into production doesn’t mean that #PicoGUS is standing still. Delphius and wbcbz7 are in the middle of implementing some pretty awesome things (and on the original RP2040 hardware)! Keep your eyes peeled 👀
I love these Pinball games (well, half of them anyway) and all of them have native support for the Gravis Ultrasound range of cards!
I'll be able to treat my ears thanks to the #PicoGUS and also the modded STB SoundRage 32 that is now a hardware GUS PnP equivalent.
Three logos in a 90s-era high tech typeface: GRAVIS PicoGUS PicoIDE
Some may not realize it, but the #PicoGUS and #PicoIDE logos are in a custom typeface that I made based on the Gravis logo from the Ultrasound Plug & Play box.
PhilsComputerLab has released a video highlighting the CD-ROM emulation feature of #PicoGUS! www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkzH...
Little #PicoGUS release that solves some majorly annoying bugs! v.3.2.1 fixes several regressions in pgusinit that prevent setting ports or returning to card defaults. It also includes a reset/power-on stability improvement.

I’m bringing some well priced #PicoGUS units with me to put in consignment at #VCFwest on Saturday!

#PicoGUS firmware v3.1.0 is released. It adds the ability to load a CD image by name and has *many* fixes for cd image listing and loading. github.com/polpo/picogu...
#PicoGUS is now an ODE! I've just released firmware v3.0.0, which adds Panasonic CD-ROM drive emulation. Put some ISOs or BIN/CUE files on a USB stick, plug it into your PicoGUS, and you've got a virtual CD-ROM drive that works in DOS and Windows 9x and supports CD audio. github.com/polpo/picogu...
I was traveling for a week and intended to work on CDROM support for #PicoGUS while on the road but forgot the charger for my Pocket386, whoops. Now I'm home. Back in the day I liked how the opening FMV in Return to Zork called back to the original text adventures while saying LOOK AT OUR CD POWER
#PicoGUS can now emulate both a CDROM drive and Sound Blaster in parallel, smoothly playing both CD audio and SB sound effects simultaneously. Still a lot of polish to do before a new firmware release but I'm excited!! This is MechWarrior 2 with bin/cue stored on a USB stick plugged into the PicoGUS
Playing DOS pinball games with #PicoGUS sound and on a vintage keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches, that's the life!

.. and suddenly I find myself back in the #90s where we saw the future of home computing unfold before our eyes. The #PC - a bulky expensive machine for boring tunaheads running WordPerfect suddenly got graphics and sound that didn't suck.

Took a moment and fixed the issue with my crashing #Pentium 200MMX system. Now the #PicoGUS with #WP32 #McCake wavetable if running #MonkeyIsland they way it's supposed to run :-) There's also a #Vibra16 card in there, which is unused for this game.
The issue? #IRQ, _obviously_. The […]

It's official - my talk about #PicoGUS at #VCFEast this year is on Friday 4/4 at 3:00PM! The speaker lineup is looking awesome especially if you're into sound on old computers. vcfed.org/events/vinta...
I love Rees’s videos and it’s awesome to see a video about #PicoGUS by him!

For the first time ever, I’m contemplating purchasing one of those contemporary PC tower cases with transparent side panels because I need to conceal the incredible combination of #PicoGUS and #McCake behind a joyless mesh. 😊
Windows 98 running in a VM. It’s showing a command prompt window, with a compile error showing out of memory.
A terminal window showing the Windows Kernel Debugger. It’s displaying debug messages for the MSSNDSYS driver.
I’m trying to get to the bottom of why #PicoGUS has issues being detected in Win9x so I’m diving into the Windows 95 DDK. It comes with the source for the WSS driver and with some difficulty I got it to compile and I can debug it with an attached serial terminal. Pretty fun
Now that we have a daily driver in terms of sound, let's add some fancy high quality sound for tracker music and games that support this.
I don't have a real Gravis Ultrasound or MPU-401 controller for General MIDI to connect my Roland MT-32, but the #PicoGUS does the same thing and is affordable!
This is a really cool combination: #PicoGUS and #MT32-Pi playing together. I've wanted an MT32 for a long time, it's the cheapest alternative to a real one - and it sounds great! And also a perfect opportunity to try out my retro PC testbed...😜
#PicoGUS is starting to gain Sound Blaster 16 support. It's kinda rough at this point (stereo flips, DMA interval is constant so the sampling rate is too high) but this is a great start!
