The good news is that the people using that term are bound to lose politically. Their side can't grow, only shrink.
It's just identity politics where the identity is some vague idealized version of old NY. Transplants are just everyone who doesn't match that old idea.
But the idea is so vague that it just ends up meaning "anyone who wants to change anything, regardless of what it is or if it is good".

I am thankful that the NYPD and FBI thwarted this plot, which could have endangered Nerdeen’s life and those of other New Yorkers. Let me be clear: We will not tolerate violent extremism in our city. No one should face violence for their political beliefs or their advocacy. I am relieved that Nerdeen is safe. Our city must meet hate with solidarity, and meet fear with an unshakable commitment to justice and to one another.

Idk what happens then. I read somewhere that revolutions don't happen when people's QoL is low; otherwise, we would have revolutions all over the place. It is when they feel their QoL is increasing, and then it stops or decreases.
The American political system, since WW2, has worked under the assumption that QoL can only increase. This is why they opposed anything that would imply you had to decrease your QoL (eg, Env stuff).
Now they're just coming out and saying, "lower your QoL." Except it isn't even for a noble goal.
