Still haven’t fully realized that this happened … on Thursday, I had the opportunity to give my first ever talk at a larger conference at #EuPA2025 🎉Thanks to all my colleagues from @mpc-bochum.bsky.social , who contributed to this project throughout the last years!
#proud
Afterwards, we enjoyed the ECR Networking Event, which was perfectly organised by the @ypic.bsky.social members.
We will keep you updated with further posts covering #EuPA2025.
We are proud of our teaching!
In addition to research, we at MPC are also intensively involved in teaching.
Since the MPC is part of the Medical Faculty of @ruhr-uni-bochum.de, we primarily teach medical students.
We are proud to have such a powerful tool in our mass spec room, driving forward our research and discoveries. Here’s to many more years of groundbreaking science with our Fusion Lumos! 🥂🔬

🎉 Celebrating the 6th Anniversary of Our Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Mass Spectrometer! 🎉
Installed in May 2019, last week we celebrated the 6th birthday of our incredible Orbitrap Fusion Lumos mass spectrometer. This makes it our oldest instrument in terms of those used for global proteomics studies.
Here we enjoy state-of-the-art equipment and would like to introduce our laboratory to you today in a short video. However, some things have already changed again, especially with regard to the number and type of our mass spectrometers, which we will present in further posts. So stay tuned.
The MPC is headed by Prof. Dr. Katrin Marcus-Alic and our focus is on the proteomic analysis and characterisation of body fluids, tissue samples, cell culture and model organisms in the context of clinical research.
Introducing the MPC: The Medizinische Proteom-Center is located at the @ruhr-uni-bochum.de and moved to the Center for Protein-Diagnostics (ProDi) in 2019, which was funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
This is why I cherish collaborating with scientists worldwide across different research areas. I remain grateful for that one research paper that steered me in an unimaginable direction.
What I’ve learned is to stay curious and seek new opportunities to find an environment where you can reach your full potential and find passion in what you do. The versatility of proteomics, allowing its techniques to be applied to various research questions and fields, is what I love most.
Initially, I planned to return to the lab where I did my bachelor’s thesis to continue studying glaucoma pathomechanisms. However, my fascination with proteins turned that internship into a Master’s thesis followed by a PhD and now, my postdoctoral position.
Unfamiliar with these techniques and without guidance from my supervisor, I delved into the literature to understand the concepts. After my presentation, I decided to do a six-week internship at the @mpc-bochum.bsky.social to learn how to conduct such experiments.
How did I get into proteomics?
Inspired by a survey of @proteomicsnews.bsky.social, I reflected on my motivation for diving into proteomics research. During my Master’s studies, I prepared a paper for a literature seminar using TMT labelling to study changes in the vitreous and retina in glaucoma.
I had to present a paper using proteomics during my Master‘s studies and then decided to do a 6-week practical course at @mpc-bochum.bsky.social, which resulted in a Master thesis using PRM

Great collaboration (as always!) with the @ncndgroup.bsky.social. I'm happy to be a part of this collaborative project on the effect of truncated tau on the endo-lysosomal system.
Have you ever wanted to contribute to the organization of a scientific conference? Here is your chance! Vote under following link until March 28:

Methods include quantum laser infrared microscopy, a semi-supervised convolutional neural network and laser microdissection-based proteomics!!! We can show that IHC has an effect on protein abundance when using fresh-frozen tissue. 2/3
Studying the proteome of amyloid-beta plaques in Alzheimer's disease without the need to perform immunohistochemical staining? Sounds like science-fiction but now possible thanks to this great collaborative project!!
