for white supremacists the paradox they are *constantly* wrestling with is "if we're so superior why are we losing"

for male supremacists it's the same: "if men are so naturally superior where did all the patriarchy go"

one way out is this desperate reinscription of the natural

I went to 30 hours of meetings on AI so you don’t have to. I went to 30 hours of meetings on AI so you don’t have to. Overview on Corporate/Education AI Innovation I started the last week as an AI pessimist and ended it in the back of a driverless car …

@mrtomrad.bsky.social quoting the one properly-reticent executive on an AI panel a year ago:

“We can only transfer a portion of reality into computational language.”

Pretty sure that take is still a good one.

Yes, I’m settling in at my desk for a day of writing. But this is today’s coffee mug, a gift from that store.

It’s diner-perfect. 😌

Can you blame me for thinking about buying companion dishes?

Completely! There’s great CS edu research (k-8 and, separately, undergrad) that looks at these as different levels of abstraction. The ability to translate between levels is a key for programmers.

It echoes today’s math activities perfectly. ✨

I've been thinking a lot in #CSed #csk8 lately about the interplay between plain-language & actual code.

The visualpatterns.org exercises are a *great* way to build the skills of Specifying in Plain Language and Implementing from Plain Language.

I think we should spent time here. <end>

That last round is a reciprocal two-step, something like: (1) "Explain in plain language what the 100th step in this pattern would look like." and then (2) "Here's my drawing from your description of the 100th step." ...
A lot like some Unplugged Computing activities I've seen. ... /

.... So... real reflection... today's #MathRoutineCollab really got me thinking about complex patterns and *plain language*.

The routines from visualpatterns.org start with a round or two of drawing the "[n]th step in this pattern." And Fawn ended some with a round of plain language... /

Kudos to the CS senior (and TA) who amid all this still says: “I think the innate value of having staff members is that you can interact with students… Human interaction is the best way to intimately understand the course material.” 🫡
