I was in Birmingham that night, with my then boyfriend and mother watching Spike Milligan at the theatre. When the bomb went off Spike said ‘oh, thunder’ in one of his silly voices, but of course when we got outside after the show and my dad was there to pick us up we found out it wasn’t thunder…
