About to record another brilliant Borthwick Papers podcast this afternoon: which reminds me, if you want excellent hour-long podcasts on interesting Yorkshire based research, then LOOK NO FURTHER:

It's true! This has been a long time in the planning, so I'm delighted everything is now live for people anywhere in the world to access. Remember many local libraries in the UK offer free Ancestry access as well!
This sounds like an amazing resource for people interested in Yorkshire history, or with ancestors here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
“Ah crap I gotta get back before my parking runs out!”
Folks! A reminder! A signal boost! A note that the gardening can wait til tomorrow! By thunder, there’s sixteen million all new records to search!
Good news for people with Yorkshire ancestors!
It's time well wasted!
Our monthly newsletter is slightly later than usual - we wanted to tie in all our exciting news with the launch of our probate registers and Bishops’ Transcripts onto Ancestry! The probate collection is our Archive of the Month - read on to find out more

Two new collections added by #Ancestry, which may help with #FamilyHistory, #LocalHistory & #OnePlaceStudies in (and beyond) #Yorkshire:
● Prerogative & Exchequer Court of York Wills, 1389-1858
● Yorkshire, Bishops’ Transcripts of Baptism, Marriage & Burial Registers, 1558-1912

And here is the official announcement from the Borthwick Institute for Archives. Brilliant records for #FamilyHistory, #LocalHistory and #OnePlaceStudies!
Big news for the wills world:

Just been having a look at this - what a source. Even indexes everybody listed in the will and how they were related to the testator. Well worth a look.
DAMMIT!
Consider yourself spoiled (well, probate register number is there!!)
If you want the most extra picture possible here is me, signing the agreement with Ancestry…..IN ABU DHABI
Yes! Not just the testator - all the legatees are listed as well! ALL OF THEM! With their relationship to the testator! We were BLOWN AWAY by that!
This is such a huge achievement, and a massive new research resource that is accessible to everyone with access to Ancestry (always check with your local library, btw, you may get free access there). Huuuge thanks to EVERYONE who has worked on this over the last five years to get us to this point!

Today we've launched our digitised Probate Registers and Bishops' Transcripts collections onto Ancestry. Together that's 16 million records covering 1389-1858 - these can be accessed via a subscription to Ancestry or for free here at the Borthwick!

Just in time for that long Easter weekend eh? Get your feet up and find out what your ancestors actually owned. How about THAT
Anyone for SIXTEEN MILLION new records to search on Ancestry? Including for the first time ever, all of the wills from the Court of York, 1389-1858? Not just the indexes this time, but also new images of the Registers themselves?

Today’s fun!
A visit from the UoY and York St John Doctor Who societies to look at the Terrance Dicks Archive. Honestly such an uplifting afternoon! Loved it!
Words used @uoyborthwick.bsky.social today
"I laughed so hard, I broke my collar stiffener"
"WHY IS THERE A DALEK IN MY ARCHIVES DISPLAY?" (yes this was in all caps)
"I've been looking at pictures of tits, we're showing them to the students next week"
"Fetch the Bindomatic 5000!"

Another day, another slightly baffling vintage advert from the archives ('a showerfully good idea' was right there!)
This is an amazing resource for anyone working on their York family history, and we're pleased to say the Society is running a second weekly drop in session here at the Borthwick on the main university campus, every Friday from 10am-4pm for all your local history needs 😊 @balhnews.bsky.social
