My junior school was built in Victorian times & every classroom had a window pole! #OnePlaceWednesday
Might it be worth making contact with the one-placer who has registered the #OnePlaceStudy, to see if collaboration is possible (e.g. each of you taking on different record sets / time periods / places within the place)? #OnePlaceWednesday
Is it worth approaching them & possibly collaborating? Is the study active? #OnePlaceWednesday
When you realise you've developed such an affinity for a place that you're happily considering a #OnePlaceStudy for the future, only to find it already registered by someone else. Woe.

Here are some more gems from the #Sudbourne School’s ‘Stock & Stores Account Book’ - a stock list of P. T. Apparatus including balks & hoops, & of various items which would have been found in the classrooms. I had to look up a few of the items, such as Dusmo!

One of my favourite finds from my recent Suffolk Archives trip was the #Sudbourne School’s ‘Stock & Stores Account Book’. It’s fascinating, as it lists items in use at the school 1940/41, & helped me with my #WW2 education-themed article on Sudbourne for Destinations

I’m onto St Peter Port now - two couples, each Jean Carey with wife Marie, having lots of children baptised around the same time. Thankfully the PRs give the mother’s surname (Brock ✅ or Le Ray ❌), so I can tell them apart. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all PRs were so helpful 🙏 #OnePlaceWednesday
Fabulous! May the #OnePlaceWednesday discoveries keep on coming!
Extract from Guernsey Parish Register 1811 baptism of twins. Translation from French: Emily, daughter of Rev’d Thomas Brock, Rector of this parish, and Marie Carey his wife, born 16 Mar 1811, was presented for baptism 12 Jul 1811 by Mr Jean Saumarez, Mrs Judith Brock his wife, and Miss Carterette Saumarez. Emma, daughter of Rev’d Thomas Brock and of Marie Carey his wife, born 16 Mar 1811, was presented for baptism on 12 Jul 1811 by Miss Rachel Carey, Rev’d Thomas Carey and Miss Marie Brock sister of the little girl. Bailiwick Of Guernsey, Parish Baptisms > St Pierre Du Bois, Anglican Baptisms 1824-1889 > AQ/1199/22
The St Pierre du Bois, Guernsey PRs just keep on giving! 🤩 Today’s discovery 1811 twins Emily and Emma! I’d always assumed “Emily/Emma” was just one person… but no, they were twins 👯♀️
Even better, their 8yr old sister was one of the godparents! Thrilled with a find like this✨

Extract from Bailiwick Of Guernsey, Parish Baptisms > St Pierre Du Bois, Anglican Baptisms 1824-1889 > AQ/1199/22 > 1868: Elsie McLeod, daughter of the Rev’d Carey Brock MA, Rector of this Parish and Frances Elizabeth Georgina Baynes his wife, born 14 Nov 1866. Baptised 25 Dec 1866. Sponsors: Henry Walter Brock, Mrs Andrew Paxton Charles, and Miss Emily Louisa Stather [spelling?]. Baptised by her father Carey Brock MA Rector. He forgot to enter the baptism in 1866, so there’s a note in the margin “Omitted in 1866”
My first #OnePlaceWednesday 👋 I had lovely find in the parish records of St Pierre du Bois, Guernsey yesterday: my 2nd great grandfather (the Rector!) forgot to record his youngest daughter’s 1866 baptism- then added a note in 1868 when he remembered. Nice reminder that ancestors were human too...
#OnePlaceWednesday. Image: Photo of a view across a small lake on a sunny day in late Winter / early Spring. Parts of leafless trees can be seen on either side of the foreground, framing the view along with reedbeds at the bottom of the image. More trees (singles and small areas of woodland) can be seen, along with sheep pasture, on the other side. The blue and partially cloudy sky above is reflected in the water of the lake, in the middle of which is a group of white birds (Gulls).
