Having transcribed many wills for Colnbrook #OnePlaceStudy there are two inescapable facts. 1) Forever is a very long time. 2) Any will longer that four sheets is more likely to be followed by a court case. Even if it takes forever to bring the case! 😆
The March 2026 Batley St. Mary’s and Birstall St. Patrick’s parish history bulletin pieces are now online

Edwin Percival Harrison (1897-1983), Rillington: coal merchant, bicycle repairer and seller, later the local school crossing keeper (lollipop man). One life, several roles - change on the ground. #OnePlaceStudy #MicroHistory #FamilyHistory #LocalKnowledge
Item I give to my Second daughter Elizabeth Wilson Two Hundred and fiftie poundes in money Item my Will is that she shall wayte upon some Virtuous Lady to Learne behaviour and not sitte and lye at home to Waste that little shee hath
In Colnbrook #OnePlaceStudy I have discovered another will about the ownership of another Inn in Colnbrook. Included was this gem about Felix's domestic life in 1661. In 1647 of Lord Fairfax stayed at Mr Wilson's House. Are the executors are going to have trouble with these Items in the will?
The tithe apportionment records for my #OnePlaceStudy of Waters Upton in #Shropshire include the field name Hell Hole!
A montage of three photos combined into a single image. Top: A Red Kite soaring in the blue sky above me, head towards me and to my right, forked tail spread wide and primary flight feathers extended like fingers at the end of each outstretched wing. Bottom right: A similar photo of the same Red Kite, but the bird is flying away from me and to my left; the forked tail is again spread wide, but the primary flight feathers are closed together. Bottom left: A Raven perched on a small branch in a distant tree; the bird's body faces away from me, but the head is turned to the right.
Red Kite and Raven at Fawsley yesterday. There were two very vocal Ravens, neither of whom came close. My Red Kite sightings may all have been of the same bird, but I got the feeling there was more than one around. #OnePlaceStudy #Birds #UKWildlife 🌿
Damn! Another rabbit hole that affects my Colnbrook #OnePlaceStudy Reports of Charles I and Lord Fairfax staying in Colnbrook ( at different times).
Three landscape format photos combined in a single image. Top: Looking across a green field to Fawsley Hall, a sprawling, stone-built, 2- to 3-storey country house. Middle: A Lesser Celandine with two bright yellow flowers growing amongst the grass in the churchyard. Bottom: A 7-spot Ladybird on an old gravestone.
It was good to be back at Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy, for the first time in a while today. On the downside, excavations for a new sewer main are temporarily spoiling many of my favourite views. On the upside, plenty of #wildlife including Ravens, Red Kites, Chiffchaffs, Ladybirds and more.
Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻 Wouldn't want you to miss out on the joy of a #OnePlaceStudy!
I'm not sure how active it is - there's no website and the last mention I see online is from two years ago - but either way, when I get around to a #OnePlaceStudy, I'd like it to be my own work, done from scratch, so I can experience all of the different challenges and discoveries for myself. 🙂
Thanks for the idea, but I'm looking forward to the discovery and new challenges of a #OnePlaceStudy and I don't believe I'd get that coming in late (I'm pretty sure they've been working on it for a long time). Hopefully at some point I'll feel a connection to another place that is available.
Hoping to learn something from the @socaustgen.bsky.social One Place Focus Group tonight. The topic is #cemeteries #OnePlaceStudy #localhistory #familyhistory

Might it be worth making contact with the one-placer who has registered the #OnePlaceStudy, to see if collaboration is possible (e.g. each of you taking on different record sets / time periods / places within the place)? #OnePlaceWednesday
When you realise you've developed such an affinity for a place that you're happily considering a #OnePlaceStudy for the future, only to find it already registered by someone else. Woe.

The Barn at Harmondsworth is under threat from Heathrow Airport expansion. See also Longford #OnePlaceStudy which also will be lost. There are other problems for Heathrow, the company does not have the funds & Iran war is affecting one of the owners. Same war causing rise in oil prices & flights.

Your video on correlating the 1841 Census with the tithe maps was so helpful.
I thought you might like to see a case from the USA to show what can be done with mapping as part of a rigorous #OnePlaceStudy.
