Here are some more gems from the #Sudbourne School’s ‘Stock & Stores Account Book’ - a stock list of P. T. Apparatus including balks & hoops, & of various items which would have been found in the classrooms. I had to look up a few of the items, such as Dusmo!

One of my favourite finds from my recent Suffolk Archives trip was the #Sudbourne School’s ‘Stock & Stores Account Book’. It’s fascinating, as it lists items in use at the school 1940/41, & helped me with my #WW2 education-themed article on Sudbourne for Destinations

I’ve transcribed 70 years of school log books for my #Sudbourne #OnePlaceStudy. They’re such a wonderful insight into village life #GenHour

I did draw up a list of topics I could write about using #Sudbourne school as my topic, but I think that’s a bit too specific! People might quickly lose interest 😵‍💫 especially as I’ve written an article on it for the next issue of Destinations #OnePlaceWednesday

You’d think that having visited my #OnePlaceStudy of #Sudbourne the week before last, & spending 2 days in the archives, that I’d have loads to share. But I’ve made so many discoveries that it’s taking me a while to sort all my photos out & analyse the content!

Had an amazing trip to #Sudbourne & Suffolk Archives last week. Some of my favourite documents were the coroners inquests. I was surprised to see several family members on the jury for my 3x great grandfather’s inquest. Inquests will definitely be a future project! #OnePlaceWednesday

I’ve spent the day at the archives in Ipswich, mainly researching my #OnePlaceStudy of #Sudbourne but doing some #FamilyHistory too. Today I looked at some sad coroners inquests for ancestors. Was interested to see several family members on the inquest jury for one of their own relatives! #GenHour

On Saturday I was excited to be contacted by a chap who was researching a story with a #Sudbourne connection. He asked if he could use a couple of images from my website. I was more than happy to agree. The story is now online, it’s a sad one

I’m exploring the area near #Sudbourne, visited an old chapel and a graveyard, now having a drink in an ancestral pub before heading off to a couple more villages. I was thrilled to see these two hares in amongst the crows in a field - the best view I’ve ever had of a hare! #OnePlaceWednesday

I’m excited to have submitted a school-themed article for Destinations on #Sudbourne School & WW2! I think I’ll use school log books to write a series of themed articles about the school, as it might make them more digestible to readers than publishing the transcriptions

Church Farm, Sudbourne

I’ll (hopefully!) be having the perfect #OnePlaceWednesday - off to my #OnePlaceStudy of #Sudbourne! I’ll be staying in a converted outbuilding of this Jacobean farmhouse in the village & commuting to the archives in Ipswich to to some research into Sudbourne & a brick wall in my #FamilyHistory

I've had a lovely afternoon working on my #Sudbourne school article. In fact the abundance of information in the log books has made me rethink how I should share the info from the log books; rather than a direct transcription, perhaps a series of articles on different themes...

In preparation for March’s #OnePlaceClothes prompt, I’m tempted to investigate the #Sudbourne shoemakers - if that isn’t too loose an interpretation! There seems to have been several shoemakers at any one time & I want to see how many there were in nearby villages #OnePlaceWednesday

One of the jobs on my to-do list is to investigate #OnePlaceAdverts for #Sudbourne. I looked at a couple of ‘situations wanted’ for last year’s A-Z blogging challenge but am keen to see what else I might find #OnePlaceWednesday

It’s been quiet on the #OnePlaceStudy front for me for a couple of weeks, as I’ve been working on a brick wall. But I have a few days coming up to focus just on #Sudbourne, & I’ve enjoyed making a list of jobs. Currently transcribing another directory for the website #OnePlaceWednesday

My Christmas break is nearly over 😭 & I’ve not had a chance to work on my #OnePlaceStudies, #FamilyHistory or #OneNameStudy 😫
Tomorrow’s to-do list:
1. Download wills
2. Work on #OneNameStudy lessons I fell behind on
3. Order more death certs for #Sudbourne

Another project I might work on over Christmas is writing an article about farming in #Sudbourne for the @sfhs1975.bsky.social journal. It has always been a very agricultural village & I’ve amassed quite a bit of information about the subject #OnePlaceWednesday

I really enjoyed this podcast recently. Two ancestors were grocers in my #Sudbourne #OnePlaceStudy & it made me think what their shop/home was like. I’ll definitely visit Mr Straw’s house if I’m in the area

I’ve finally got round to contacting the church which took over the Baptist church in #Sudbourne. I’m hoping they can help me with info on ancestors who were active there, & possibly a brick wall in the nearby village of #Tunstall, whose chapel merged with Sudbourne 🤞🏻 #OnePlaceWednesday
