I've realised I've been missing #FamilyHistory chat on social media for a while. Somewhere to share those little thoughts and gems with no expectation. So going to re-engage with #AncestryHour and #GenHour. Not sure I'll always hit the exact hour whilst I get back into a rhythm....

Started work on the letter A for the A-Z challenge. But at this rate of research, I'll never ever get to Z. I'm thinking of giving it a miss after all. So much else to do...
Sorry to miss #AncestryHour #genealogy

#AncestryHour Second will found today is the kind I like most: an aunt leaving things to her nieces and to the children of her late nephew, who is one of my people of interest.

#AncestryHour Looking about in the area to see what I can find and you know how Ancestry shoves a family tree in your face at the top of the search results?

That Samuel's wife's name is ... Mary.

Or just "Mrs X" with no given name. Grrrr. #AncestryHour

#AncestryHour Yes, I'm completely spoiled by the post-1858 wills where the probate calendar obligingly tells me the occupation of the executor(s) so you can sometimes see at a glance whether you have the right family or not.

It's time to trace the properties, as much as I can from afar.

My number one frustration about reading wills: "My wife"

Her name, is it too much to ask? Even if it's 'Mary' and there are a hundred 'Mary' candidates, that's better than nothing.

Hi #AncestryHour. I have nothing to post about #genealogy today because I’ve been busy prepping for Passover (Pesach) which starts tomorrow night.

#AncestryHour I'm thinking about doing a self-answered question on Ancestry Full Text Search for Genealogy Stack Exchange. If you have questions and don't want to post yourself, let me know, and I'll try to include your type of search in my answer.

Well, I'm all signed up for APG and Strathclyde #genealogy conference in Glasgow in June. Who else is going?

Now all I need is for Trump to stop buggering up the flights...

The object of the Awards is to encourage the production of high quality publicly or locally funded local history publications. Our criteria for assessing the award are not just about the quality and content of a publication, but its whole journey i.e. how it was conceived, who is involved and how it was funded.

Before antibiotics, thousands of British children vanished into hospitals for years. Cold wards. No toys. No parents. Their suffering was policy.
'Yet' tells their story.

#AncestryHour This is a test search for papers from the UK from 8 databases, from a date range for 1700 to 1900. I've selected the pin for Plymouth (Devon, England). Most hits are from BNA but at the bottom you can see there are a few papers at Newspapers-dot-com as well.

2. I got a notice from NYC yesterday abt my mat GM. Here’s the OG death cert you sent us & your order was received on March 17th. I sent it in on February 2nd! 😆 Oh well. I expect I won’t see a result of that inquiry until May if Michigan is any indication of how backed up they are. #AncestryHour

Hi #AncestryHour. 2 things:

1. The tiny bit of genealogy research I did this week is look up my mat GF’s elementary school in Detroit on Archive Grid. I got one thing from 1907. The family went there ca. 1912-1921. 😞 Also looked up the hometowns for 2 of my mat. GGPs; got a hand of result.
