So much of our language reflects
the common “car first” bias around our streets, & we should never forget that much of that language was the result of deliberate campaigns to specifically re-write our perspective of streets as “for cars only.” This is one of the more subtle, but important, examples.

This is so good, we wish WE had made it! The history & lunacy of the disinformation campaign around 15-Minute Cities, by 2 “non experts” @iandunt.bsky.social & @dorianlynskey.bsky.social who show how experts SHOULD be communicating. Thanks to the @originstorypodcast.bsky.social podcast. #UrbanTruth
Republicans know they are about to lose the House and are trying to give Big Oil its holy grail: legal immunity from any futures actions that would hold the industry responsible for the climate crisis it knowingly caused and is making worse every day.

“The power lie is a different kind of deception. People already know it’s not true, so there is no way to contradict it, to persuade people otherwise. The appeal is that, as a believer, you can be part of it, sharing the power by accepting the falsehood is true.” — @caroloff.bsky.social #UrbanTruth

Important lesson here for other countries.
Everyone can have a penthouse? How did this guy ever convince anyone he’s smart? He’s always been a good conman though, I’ll give him that.
The Paris transformation continues, unhindered by the culture of excuses, and self-sabotaging election results, that we’ve seen in too many other cities.
It’s a settled point that housing and a bit of basic income is cheaper than punishment but the US thinks it’s being soft on crime to help people, and there are people who make money on prisons and punishment
I’ve authored or co-authored transportation plans for many cities, but I’ve also been asked on many occasions to peer review transportation plans written by staff or other consultants. That’s always an interesting exercise, and one I enjoy doing… at least most of the time. I’m doing that right now.
"We're manufacturing evidence even as we speak.!"
I had a neighbor who was very “red pilled”, had very strong views about 15 minute cities. We lived in one and he didn’t notice.
“The infamous Koch brothers have bankrolled climate deniers, propped up polluting industries, and even tried to turn the black community pro-fossil fuel. But, as a recent New York Times story shows, the billionaire conservatives have been steadily exerting pressure against public transit as well.”

I grew up in what today would be called a 15-minute city, except that back then we just called it a neighborhood.
When our city enacted a ban on playing street hockey, I think the perspective shifted completely. Now streets are perceived as car only spaces. In neighborhoods that wasn’t the case when I was a child. It was common for people to be in the street. Mostly playing.
If Norway or Denmark want to pay me six figures to live there and write positive things about their countries, I would totally take that deal. Something tells me those countries don’t feel the need to pay for American propaganda shills, however.
The way I put that might suggest the transportation plan I’m peer reviewing now isn’t “an interesting exercise” —didn’t mean it that way, actually my recommendations on the draft led them to ask me to help rewrite the final.
The less fun (rare) examples are when my advice is almost to “start over.”
When advocates for parking talk about the wAR oN CaRs in a #BetterByWard because someone dares to propose we close a street, they’re missing the point: it’s about opening the street to people, creating better #PlacesForPeople, thriving vibrancy and forging community. The exact opposite of closed.
Canadian doctors obeying a U.S. executive order that doesn’t even apply to Canada is deeply offensive to both trans people and to Canadian legal sovereignty.

This is a GOOD team!
This - every time I would coordinate a street closure I made sure we had sign that said "Street Open for People"
Picture of street filled with people when cars are prohibited, with a prominent sign saying “road closed.” Via Urban Truth Collecrive (Also, it’s a street, not a road)
How come they keep spelling “open” wrong?
Does that street look closed to you? Only if you’re a car… and presumably that’s the real problem. #UrbanTruth

Eight *kids* and I had to ask my wife about it when it scrolled by on local news. We're a nation with massive brain-poisoning.
This isn't accidental oversight by our media. It's malicious complicity.
