This. #Architecture is about making #PlacesForPeople; this is something procurement depts in cities/govs don’t understand. We don’t want procurement reform for our sake, but to be able to deliver what the public wants/needs 1/ www.instagram.com/reel/DWocod6...
100% right. We need better #PlacesForPeople; to bring dignity, sense of belonging. To create the tomorrow we aspire to.
Heaven forbid we could have nice things rather than traffic. And again it’s the pesky cyclists being framed rather than acknowledging that everyone benefits. #melbourne #urban #cycling #placesforpeople

We could do things faster, better, create better outcomes, hire firms who actually pay their employees, and create better #PlacesForPeople w/less bureaucracy and BS. But we’d have to rethink our approach. Design leadership is key. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp85...
Build a #BetterByWard: more #PlacesForPeople; that means more vitality, better economy and better outcomes.
Imagine a #BetterByWard
Imagin the courage to make #PlacesForPeople, to watch communities thrive and economies grow. Imagine making real change in our OP goals, our quality of life.
Imagine breaking the myth that parking = business survival

Fixing procurement is the single biggest change Gov/public agencies at all levels can do.
Want to create equity in built environment? Shop local? Boost economy? Save cities money? Address climate change? Create better jobs? Better #PlacesForPeople? Fix procurement!
Let’s make #OttCity, also a G7 capital, lead in transformative placemaking, joining the ranks of great cities and #PlacesForPeople

And to circle back to @davidmoscrop.com piece, an #architecture policy wouldn’t be an extra layer of bureaucracy; it would cut out overlapping layers and process, deliver better #PlacesForPeople and cement our cultural identity. www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...
Here in #OttCity we could join this list of cities that are creating better. #PlacesForPeople but it would require a shift in thinking, and an approach to affordability that more than half of City counsellors can’t seem to get behind. The urban core gets it and pushes, but is routinely outvoted.
Architects know this, and have the skills to design for durability; too often, public sector projects set low targets (min code) as the basis of design, but the code is the very least we can do; this costs more in the long run. We need to see value in delivering better; better #PlacesForPeople
Imagine if ON politicians prioritized not only providing good schools and daycares that met social and programmatic needs but that were also beautiful, durable and stood the test of time; that were #PlacesForPeople and planned, designed, constructed and maintained in the public interest.. 1/
We’ve normalized catastrophic injury and death on our city streets because it’s convenient. Our political leaders normalize spending hundreds of millions of dollars to shave seconds off of a commute instead of focussing on key issues like well-being and #PlacesForPeople
@urbantruth.bsky.social
Ottawa, like Paris, is a G7 capital. While we’ll never match Parisian culture, history, and shouldn’t strive to be like Paris (or London, or Berlin etc) we should strive to be #OurBestOttawa; that means we can learn from other places and strive to achieve similar goals: better #PlacesForPeople 1/
Maybe we should book some of those new direct flights from ottawa to London for senior staff and council to see what real G7 capital city does to make great #PlacesForPeople; call it a trade mission and bring thought leaders/advocates to show how power of design affects economy, wellbeing.
Ottawa, like London, is a G7 capital city; #OttCity needs to lean in and step up its game; better #PlacesForPeople; sustainability and better quality of life. Better for the economy, our reputation and tourism. Nothing but positives.

Dream bigger. Have a vision. Create and celebrate excellence in making #PlacesForPeople
Thanks to the NCC, #OttCity tops the list of great cities; let’s do our part as well. We have the talent and skill. But as a city bureaucracy we don’t seem to care or even try. ottawacitizen.com/opinion/otta...
Always remember that EVs might be slightly better than gas powered cars, but that at its most basic, a city made for EVs is still a city made for cars. We need to shift to #PlacesForPeople not parking; roll/walkable places connected by transit: experience a city, don’t just drive thru it.
Truth be told: follow this account to get to the heart of the matter: the real truths behind urban design, dispelling the myths and misinformation that affects how we think about our places. Give @urbantruth.bsky.social a follow and join the movement to make #PlacesForPeople
And it would be so easy to develop a vision, create great #PlacesForPeople and build a strong economy; create homes and vibrancy; nurture a local arts and culture scene; it just takes will. Businesses in a #BetterByWard shouldn’t be dependent on parking: bsky.app/profile/bren...

City has had years to remake streets to improve pedestrian experience; sure, queen was redone as part of LRT but that’s 1 of many: Albert and Slater are still car sewers; few/no trees planted; nothing to incentivize better #PlacesForPeople 2/
The starter packs created by @brenttoderian.bsky.social are really excellent. They’re a great way to find leading voices and engage in thoughtful and creative discussions about better #PlacesForPeople
We know gentle density can work; replace a single detached with a few townhomes, adding SDUs, even modest 4 st apartments that are well designed doesn’t alter the overall community, creates housing opportunities and sustainable #PlacesForPeople
