I don’t know what this thread means. How was it your fault at all? Have the results been accepted? There’s no answers here at all

One bad commutation produces ten thousand times the outrage of thousands of unnecessary incarcerations.

If you are chiming in only now, ask yourself why you are demanding perfection here, but not on those we lock up in our sadistic prisons?

Why does mercy anger you but cruelty does not?

5th avenue bike planning timeline spanning from 2007 to 2024

Planning for a bike lane in Seattle has taken nearly 3x as long as building the 31 mile Channel tunnel.

We need to desperately change how we plan and build things at every level of government.

Unmasking the Surveillance State: Patrick Eddington’s Fight for Government Transparency Patrick Eddington was a CIA whistleblower. Now, he’s keeping all intelligence agencies accountable.

Well, my employer decided to plug my #FOIA work in the latest edition of our quarterly magazine, so for those who might not be familiar with my backstory, this provides a cogent summary:

So I wrote this, and it's the best thing I've ever written.

"We will resolve disputes in favor of protecting users as a whole."

That right there. That tells everyone how Trust & Safety is going to act, and it gives T&S profound latitude. They're not there to rules-lawyer or first-amendment.

The deep goal of bluesky is to decentralize the social internet so that every individual controls their experience of it rather than having it be controlled by 5 random billionaires. Everyone thinks they signed up for a demuskified twitter...we actually signed an exciting and bizarre experiment.

RTO is a certainty but there’s a lot more positive and negative potential for how Congress might approach DC’s public safety challenges

A black and white photo of Grace Hopper standing in front of a computer bank. She is wearing a dark knee-length dress and has glasses. She is holding a piece of paper that says "COBOL" in her right hand, and flipping a switch on the computer with her left.

Computer science pioneer and United States Navy rear admiral Grace Hopper was born #OTD in 1906. 🧪 👩‍🔬

As far as I am aware, she is the only person who has both a supercomputer and a US Navy destroyer named after her. (1/n)

PrawfsBlawg: Tell me what a heckler's veto looks like, this is what a heckler's veto looks like

Prattville, Alabama authorities removed a Pride float from the town parade when float sponsors cited possible threats and asked for more security. Federal judge R. Austin Huffaker, Jr.: no, that'd be a heckler's veto and the float stays.

I want to watch TV coverage of the live fall of the Syrian regime.

CNN is airing a Giuliani documentary, Fox News has a comedian joking about Canada, MSNBC a documentary about migrants

So I turned on BBC,which is breathlessly switching between Syria, South Korea demonstrations, and Ghana election

U.S. officials urge Americans to use encrypted apps amid cyberattack that exposed live phone calls FBI and CISA officials said it was impossible to predict when the telecommunications companies would be fully safe from interlopers.

“Encryption is your friend, whether it’s on text messaging or if you have the capacity to use encrypted voice communication. Even if the adversary is able to intercept the data, if it is encrypted, it will make it impossible,” - CISA

I worked on criminal justice reform for years so my broader criticism of the Biden pardon is not partisan: the pardon process is broken and it functions to the benefit of those close to the President.

Neat, a post I did on Instagram went viral on Threads. However if I had included a link on Threads (which isn't even possible on Instagram) then Meta would have throttled it. My job is links, that's why I wont use Threads

When I worked at the movie theater customers were at their meanest on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday.

Annual reminder: if you decided to go to the movies because you can’t stand talking to Aunt Carol and a dark room is the only solution, don’t take it out on the poor usher.
