Have you ever wanted to know more about preserving plant specimens? Maybe for your own reference, or so you can share plants with experts for identification?

An English Bluebell with multiple ‘bells’
Ladies and Gentlemen, without further ado, we present to you the Queen of English Bluebells
A tree sparrow is speaking: "Artistic creation shouldn't be considered carelessly! Good art is made deliberately! With emotion! Physical exertion! If you aren't crying or bleeding by the end, you'd better look into another lifestyle...". We see a class of birds with piles of sticks and a big banner that reads "Intro to nest building" made out of twigs. The teacher continues: "Ok! Does everyone have their bundle of soft moss?"

Love hostas, may they remain uneaten and live long.

Each one of those swirls is a storm bigger than the entire Earth and going on for centuries. Let that sink in.
Goodnight. Lovely poem.

Goodnight.
‘Mostly it is a pale
face hovering in the afterdraught
of the spirit, making both ends meet
on a scream. It is the breath
of the churchyard, the forming
of white frost in a believer,
when he would pray; it is soft
feathers camouflaging a machine.’ ~ R S Thomas, Barn Owl.

Amazing piece giving examples of how the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is hitting South Asian nations that rely upon liquified petroleum gas and liquified natural gas 🧵

Globe showing the Atlantic Ocean with arrows depicting the AMOC circulation: warm surface currents (pink/red) flowing northward from the tropics toward the Arctic, and cold deep return currents (blue/purple) flowing southward. The background shows sea surface temperature trends, with a prominent blue cold patch, the "cold blob", south of Greenland, contrasting with warming (orange/red) across the rest of the ocean.
1/ There's a system of ocean currents in the Atlantic that shapes Europe's #climate, drives monsoons, and keeps sea levels stable along the US coast.
In the last 5 years, the scientific evidence that it could collapse has shifted dramatically.
Most people have no idea. 🧵
These incredible Buff Tip Moths blend in so well with branches that you might mistake them for sticks. Nature's masters of disguise are truly fascinating!
I’m delighted to share some news: my new book "You Don’t Know What You’re M ss ng" is coming out in the UK on 4th June.
It’s about something that lies hidden in the background of almost everything we do, yet rarely gets named: Missingness.

I sampled this profile (dark brown, left) on top of the lateral moraine of Argentiere Glacier 15 yrs ago!
It basically no longer exists today, bedrock is outcropping everywhere!
These moraines won't be around much longer!
Sometimes good things come to those who can’t wait: Instant Chocolate Mousse is #RecipeOfTheDay! If you’re avoiding raw eggs, or can’t eat eggs full-stop, these beauties are also very much for you. (Most supermarkets sell the mini marshmallows you need for this.) www.nigella.com/recipes/inst...
'Brian Groom’s whistlestop reminder of the tensions which have always existed between the peoples of these isles could hardly be more timely.' - James Hawes.
GB News headline: GP who asked Muslim woman to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her' is struck off.
Was this GP struck off just because he asked a Muslim woman to remove her veil?
How likely does that sound? 🤷♀️
Did he actually ask her to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her?'
Let's take a look at what really happened based on the tribunal reports...

Think this has particularly strong application to claims about allegedly unprecedented levels of political polarisation or societal divisions. These simply don’t stand up to even cursory scrutiny.
I’ll never forget watching The Wicker Man with my outer Hebridean mum. “I just don’t know where there got all that wicker from”
Little can rival an old Scots pine for sheer force of personality and presence.
One of the earlier tree species to colonise Ireland after the last Ice Age, pine was thought to have completely died out due to deforestation, until a small residual population was confirmed in the Burren, Co. Clare.
Greetings from NE! 👋 Have a great weekend ❤️ xxxx

We are looking at a close up of the Hall from outside. It is a mixture of oak frame and close studding which has been stuffed with yellow ochre plaster. The sun is shining and you can see the tool marks in the plasterwork.
It’s the weekend!
May your Saturday be as gorgeous as this bit of the Hall.
