B&w engraving by the Cologne born engraver who, with her family, was part of the Dutch Golden Age art scene. Her influential family was active mainly in Utrecht. Magdalena van de Passe signed her first prints aged 14; as an adult, she trained Anna Maria van Schurman. An exceptional talent, this engraving illustrates her attention to detail and technical skill.

"Within the shelter of black yews
The owls in ranks are ranged apart
Like foreign gods, whose eyeballs dart
Red fire. They meditate and muse."
