#OTD #Apr201905 #Prunes — The Vancouver Weekly Columbian reported on the Columbia Canning Company’s growth since 1902. By 1904, they had packed nearly 12,000 cases of fruit. Clark County was very serious about fruit.

#OTD #Apr201905 #Prunes — 246,123 lbs of apples. 229,379 lbs of pears. 107,667 lbs of cherries. Plus strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and plums.
The numbers speak for themselves.

Merle Bradford stopped by the museum to pick up our 2025 CCHM History Annual, which features a story about his father written by his brother Lyle. Merle even pointed out the milk truck his dad drove, one he remembers riding in as a kid.

#PicturingThePast #OTD #Apr211878 Pt.3 — Superintendent Gridley announced that George Whipple would entertain the audience, assisted by Miss Clara Marsh.
That was an understatement.
Grateful for the Vancouver Downtown Association, making stories like this one possible.

#PicturingThePast #OTD #Apr211878 Pt.4 — Preceded up the aisle by Clara’s sister Birdie and Clayton Gridley, the couple advanced to the altar. Rev. Mr. Day performed the surprise ceremony. The choir sang. A collection was taken. The audience was dismissed.
Now that is a wedding program.

Brittini Lasseigne, CEO of YWCA Clark County, brought an important and insightful presentation to the Rotary Club of Vancouver this afternoon.
Survivor services. Therapeutic preschool. Domestic violence shelter and prevention. Brittini made that work feel both urgent and personal.
What an evening at the Joyce Garver Theater. Grateful to be at The Enspired Dream reception with Enspire Arts. Sarah Lightfoot speaking on embracing creativity. And dear friends from across our community filling the room.
The future of arts education locally is in great hands. 🎹🎨
Attended the Chief Red Heart Memorial Ceremony at Fort Vancouver this weekend. Powerful and moving in every sense.
In 1877, Chief Red Heart’s band of 33 Nez Perce were imprisoned for eight months. A young boy died during their captivity. Today, descendants and community gathered to remember.
Always a wonderful day when you ru into friends. Familiar faces from Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and Vancouver Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services today, and the coffee? Sourced locally from Kafiex Roasters. Shoutout to the City for supporting a great local shop. ☕
So proud of our Maddie after her dance competition today! She is such an amazing dancer, always so emotive and expressive, and she absolutely nailed it. There is nothing better than celebrating with a proud Grandma and Papa by her side!
After a big day of competition, the girls and I headed out for ice cream and donuts. Leave it to Miri to bring the photo fun!
The dream has always been a haunted road trip across the country finding all the haunted hotels, motels, inns.
Now I find out I can add The Overlook Hotel from The Shining to the itinerary and honestly the trip is planning itself. 😄
Spent Spring Break in Port Townsend and now I have one question: why did we wait so long?
Victorian architecture around every corner. A burger and a phosphate soda at Nifty Fiftys Soda Fountain. A history museum visit that genuinely left me inspired. Occupational hazard. 😄
✨ What a day! Walked with the community from the Visitor Center to Fort Vancouver and joined the bicentennial ceremony marking 200 years since its founding.
Standing on the same ground where cultures, stories, and histories converged was humbling.
