Community science for assessing nature’s benefits: a systematic review and survey How can community science initiatives support assessments of nature’s benefits?

🌿 How can community science help us understand the benefits of nature?

New Oxford research shows it’s already contributing useful evidence, especially on biodiversity, but important gaps remain.

Better support could help connect local knowledge with decision-making.

Ivy isn't a 'parasite', and it doesn't 'strangle' trees.

Instead, it's a massively important natural part of forest ecosystems, providing food and shelter to a great range of animal inhabitants.

But also, it's *beautiful*.

NEW ANALYSIS: UK emissions fell 2.4% in 2025 as coal fell to a 400-year low. Incredibly, we used less coal last year than than in 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was writing Hamlet.

Gas prices jumped again this morning and are on track to double - a stark reminder of our exposure to fossil fuel volatility.

The real solution isn’t more drilling, but moving away from combustion: electrify, use renewable power, and boost energy efficiency.
