Those used to grow in the ditch along the road outside our neighborhood when I was a kid. Then the area became heavily developed, the ditch runoff was no longer clean, and the sundews disappeared. 😭

The pink sundew offers a "honey" that’s nothing but a sticky grave, glittering like diamonds in the bog heat. Once touched, the tentacles curl in like a slow choking fist to melt life into soup. Beauty in the swamp isn't always what it first appears to be.

My photo shows a Paleo-Babylonian clay tablet inscribed with cuneiform text, still partially enclosed in its original clay envelope. The clay is pale orangey-brown in colour displayed against a grey display case background. The outer envelope has been broken open, revealing the inner tablet beneath. Both surfaces are covered with densely packed wedge-shaped characters, which record a contract for the sale of a house purchased by Mannum-balu-Samas at the price of 1/3 shekel and 15 grains of silver. This is followed by the names of the numerous witnesses including the mayor Sin-magir and the courier Apil-ilisu. The same text is repeated on the envelope in the event of a dispute, which was broken to inspect the internal document. It is dated 32nd year of Hammurabl's reign, 10th month, c. 1750 BC. The clay envelope measures 87 mm (height) × 55 mm (width), while the inner tablet measures 64 mm (height) × 43 mm (width). On display at the Museum of Antiquity in Turin. Collection number MAT 740.

A view across the top of a small pot full of dirt, with three tiny two-leafed green seedlings glowing in a sunbeam while a fourth, slightly shorter seedling hides in the shadows behind them. These are tomato seedlings, just sprouted a day or two ago.

Signs of spring! It's time to get the garden going again: hoe up the weeds, gather the seeds from the collards and kale that bolted, and spread some compost. Soon, I'll be transplanting these little seedlings out into the garden.

My photo shows a Hellenistic era hemispherical mosaic glass bowl viewed from above. The glass has a floral pattern made up of tiny, many-petalled blue, white, and yellowy-green flowers against a dark purple background (looks black in my photo). The bowl has an alternating diagonal-striped black and white glass rim. The bowl has been reconstructed from fragments and the plain light blue areas are where missing glass fragments have been replaced during reconstruction. It measures 13.2 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm in height. It was made in the eastern Mediterranean about 200-100 BC.

This Hellenistic mosaic glass bowl looks so modern, yet it was made over 2,000 years ago!

Ancient glassmakers created the tiny flower pattern using a technique now known as ‘millefiori’ (thousand flowers). A timeless design still made by glassmakers today!

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

The Okefenokee Swamp is out of balance. Skink brings the heat, but I’m the counterweight in the Satilla mud. I match his fiery crown with the medicine of the dark mirror, stirring the water to call the heavy clouds back to the 'dust-choked cage.' Balance or burn. #SwampSunday #FolkWitch #WitchSky

The Long Neolithic is a fever. It infects all of us stone botherers – whether we are archaeologists or lithic pilgrims. None are free of its symptoms. The call to visit, that palpable feeling ongoing ceremony when you walk into a stone circle. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

My photo shows a set of Late Iron Age glass gaming pieces displayed on a sandy surface in a display case at the British Museum. The set is made up of 24 coloured glass domes; six each of white, yellow, blue, and translucent green glass. One of the yellow pieces is out of shot in my photo. Each game piece is decorated with five inset spiral motifs in a contrasting colour. Nearly all pieces are uniform in shape; domed with a slightly pointed apex and a flattened base. Dimensions approximately 2.57 cm diameter and 2.2 cm height.

The gaming pieces were recovered from a richly-furnished Late Iron Age cremation burial in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, when it was disturbed during the construction of two gas-pipe trenches during the building of the Panshangar Estate in 1965.

Gorgeous glass gaming pieces from Iron Age Britain! 🤩

This unique set of 24 coloured glass domes with flattened base and spiral decoration may have been used for a game similar to ludo some 2,000 years ago.

Somebody on another site responded to this with extreme "that's not art because it wasn't made with artistic intention" pedantic assholery. Thank you people of bluesky, for not being like that ❤️

Sun in Taurus 2026: The Boundaries You Avoid Are Costing You More Than You Think When the Sun moves through Taurus, the pace of life changes. Aries pushes forward. Taurus slows things down enough for you to notice what is actually taking root. This is the part of the zodiac that a

The Sun enters Taurus on April 19, and the lesson is simple: what’s valuable needs protection. This season is about boundaries, expectations, and refusing to give easy access to what you had to grow.

One thing I'm seeing more on social media is some variation of "Israel supports gender affirming care ergo we shouldn't" and (a) Israel is not, in fact, friendly to queer and trans people, (b) queer and trans people exist in every population on earth, and (c) the world is not binary like that.

The Minoan Sacral Scarf That Which Has Touched the Divine

It turns out, this enigmatic object in Minoan art isn't exactly what Sir Arthur Evans thought it is. It has some particular spiritual meanings for us in Ariadne's Tribe.

3/3: It now joins the rest of the 'pearls' in my scallop! These china marbles are prized finds in the Thames; they were made in Germany from the 1840s to around 1910, hand-painted, and exported widely. I love the variety of sizes and designs.

This is a brick wall my wife Miyuki ran in to. She just wanted to be a chef, not a "content creator."

But in the modern world, no one cares about chefs unless they have seen them on TV. They want to eat the celebrity, not the food.
