Looks like it's finally official - Nintendo Switch is now the highest-selling Nintendo platform of all time.

It's quite amazing in retrospect considering how long the DS held on to that achievement.

Wonder if they could ever find a few more sales in the seat cushions like Sony did for the PS2. 🤣

"In those days, Miyamoto would come to us at 11 PM, after he finished all of his board-member work, and say, "It's Mario time." At that point, we'd start a planning meeting that would run until 2 AM. At that point, Miyamoto would go home, leaving us with the words, "You should return home soon, for your health." Over the next two or three hours, we'd write the game design documents and summarize the instructions for our artists and programmers.

It was the craziest crunch time that I've ever experienced in my development career. But if the God of Games was working so much, could we give up? Miyamoto had incredible stamina."

-Motoi Okamoto, Script and Mini-Game Director for Super Mario 64 DS, in a 2017 interview with Chris Kohler from Gamasutra

According to Motoi Okamoto, Mini-Game Director for Super Mario 64 DS, Shigeru Miyamoto would start midnight crunch sessions for the game's development by walking into the office and announcing "It's Mario time."

“Unlike many people in the company, I was not afraid of Yamauchi-san. I had already fought with him over different issues and I also sometimes publicly opposed his ideas. But Iwata turned me down and said ‘No, we will still give it a try. See what you can do with [it].’ We were both bothered by this, especially since it meant that we had to start all over with our project! So I tried to put my team at ease and I told them ‘I have some experience working with double screens, we will give it our best shot and we’ll see, don’t worry.’ It became Project Nitro, released in 2004 under the name Nintendo DS...”

The radical nature of the Nintendo DS was so out there that even internally, their employees didn’t know what to make of it.

Anbernic's upcoming dual-screen handheld, the RG DS, got leaked from an AliExpress listing, which confirms pricing, specs, and a December release window. Don't expect heavy 3DS emulation with this one:

With the influx of dual screen devices we have begun adding support for these devices by being able to select which screen ES-DE runs on and which to launch games on.

The final time for Sylver's on-stream playthrough of Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 is 11 hours, 27 minutes, and 51 seconds.

Much longer compared to their original file's 8 hours, 11 minutes, and 47 seconds.

That's a wrap on the stream! 😉

Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 has finally been beaten! I was thinking it would be done in under 2 hours, but chapter 7 whooped my ass - especially the final boss.

Skipped out on VRChat sadly, because I am absolutely spent after all that time operating.

Also, seeing those dual-screen handhelds definitely sparked interest for me to consider getting one later down the line, and migrating my DS library I have on my Steam Deck/PC to it.

But yeah, there's still movement behind the scenes. Just taking time to get it all together. [🧵4/5]

I also thought about getting a TP pilot episode down by the DS' 21st anniversary next month, but work on that should've started already if I had that goal, so it's likely gonna be 2026 territory.

At most, maybe an Episode 0.5 or something just to say "hey, it's not dead!" is more feasible. [🧵3/5]

Obviously, nothing can be perfect out the gate + it's better to do the thing & make it good later but at the same time, I know it's something I'd like to honestly take time with.

I'm already making moves to change the direction of SYLVER.STREAM in 2026 to work in tandem with THIRD PILLAR. [🧵2/5]

Also wanted to get this out there while I'm somewhat lucid mid-work day:

I still feel a bit upset that things stalled with THIRD PILLAR. I kinda got inside my own head about the presentation style, plus I wanted to dip back into seeing contemporaries and their output a bit more. [🧵1/5]

Under $100? Oh my... that's definitely one to keep an eye on!

The recent rise of dual-screen retro handhelds in the last year or so has been a joy to witness.

Gonna need to compare/contrast some of these with DS models down the line!
