Amen!! My partner and I are both disabled in different ways, and fortunately I make enough money to spend our way out of the many resulting challenges. A lot of people act like this expensive coping mechanism means our disabilities are minor. No, it actually means we can barely save for retirement.
The idea of basing disability needs off functional assessment is utter bullshit. It's means testing by another name. I'm considering highly functional to the point where I was told disability doesn't impact my life, but that ignores all the money I've invested in things to make life possible
