This past week I was lucky enough to visit Llewellyn Glacier (at the headwaters of the Yukon River) where we're attempting to re-establish a mass balance monitoring program for this crucial water source. Grateful for the opportunity on the beautiful traditional territory of the Taku River Tlingit
Here's a great blog post AND AMAZING VIDEO from my work colleagues at Yukon University regarding the Yukon River ice break-up at Dawson this year. Have a gander! scholar.yukonu.ca/bturcotte/20...
What's algae?
I was just thinking about something like this... Love it!
Wow, here's the Yukon River ice break-up in the territory of the Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin. Our research group at YukonU had boots on the ground and eyes in the sky (plane/UAV) to make observations. These observations help researchers create models to better predict and respond to flooding due to ice jams.
Too many Caribou voting... Do you know if that's the Eagle River by chance?
Great early Spring trip in the traditional territory of the Tr'ondëk Gwich'in monitoring the max extent of Aufeis (overflow ice). Our group is trying novel ways to measure Aufeis to understand the processes around its formation and potential impacts to the Dempster Highway in northern Yukon
It's #WorldGlaciersDay. I like skiing on glaciers. Let's keep them around.
I can tell you right now without leaving my couch that it was 6 cm w.e.
So uh. Anyone got any plans for what to do if NOAA kicks Canadian weather services off GOES? Asking as someone with six weather stations that use GOES...
Update from yesterday's launch:
🤔 🤑
Every afternoon when I arrive home after picking my kid up from daycare we cheer as we see this big white weather balloon float high into the upper atmosphere. I was wondering how many locations in Canada launch these balloons. Found a list from reddit and plotted it on Google Earth.
What does your J. stand for??
Dear Blue Sky, here's a video from today at the Alpine weather station in the world famous Wolf Creek Research Basin (Yukon). Holy wind. Does this thing do hashtags? Thanks @rtutto.bsky.social
Dear rTutto,
I would like to subscribe to all the Wolf Creek, Yukon material you share.
Sincerely,
