Glaciers store 70% of Earth’s freshwater—but they’re melting fast. How can we adapt and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities?

❄️ On #WorldGlaciersDay 🌍 we remember that in recent years glaciers have lost ice faster than ever, contributing to sea‑level rise 🌊 and threatening countless ecosystems. Understanding this is key to tackling climate misinformation #ClimateEducation
A diagram illustrating the impacts of climate warming on high mountain regions. At lower levels of warming, glaciers retreat and snow cover declines. At higher levels, these changes accelerate sharply. The graphic shows increasing risks, including more severe floods, landslides and avalanches, damage to infrastructure, and growing pressure on water systems that supply billions of people. It also highlights broader consequences, such as rising sea levels and destabilisation of global climate and weather patterns.
Even if warming stopped at today’s levels, glaciers would continue to shrink. But on our current trajectory, things become far more severe.
Every fraction of a degree will determine how much survives.
