I have an email address which is structured first name.lastname@domain.invalid so it seems particularly impressive to get SPAM which starts "Hello Scott". Data cleaning remains challenging, I guess

Re-watching The Devil's Advocate again and "We're hiring you out at $400 a day" feels a bit different in this economy. But yes, "Free will, it's a bitch"

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

There premise of the film Mercy is "what if AI courts" but ISTM that allowing a defendant to investigate their own case is at least as prejudicial if not moreso

Venturing out of Coventry for a couple of days and the guy in the corner shop near the station asked where I came from and replied BELL GREEN IN THE HOUSE. I had no idea that Coventry was this popular.

The impact of generative AI on authorship | BCS Georgia Smith MBCS explores the relationship between AI and authorship with Ryan Abbott, Professor of Law and Health Sciences at the University of Surrey, and globally renowned expert Merve Hickok, President and Policy Director at the Center for AI & Digital Policy (CAIDP).

Should it be possible to copyright AI authored works? Some interesting responses to that question in this slightly confused article:

"You're changing lives. But with water". Once again the Apprentice does not disappoint for hyperbole.

Can't tell if the chap on this train knows he's singing out loud or he just has very good noise cancelling on his earphones

A photograph of a wall with the following quotations painted on it:

'Birmingham has changed a lot, but for me it's still the centre of the universe.' Benjamin Zephaniah, 2005

'Its inhabitants work as if they must get rich by the evening and die the next day.' Alexis de Toqueville, 1835

'I was surprised at the place, but more so at the people. They possessed a vivacity I had never beheld.' William Hutton, 1741

'Bremicham, swarming with inhabitants, and echoing with the noise of Anvils, for here are great numbers of Smiths.' William Camden, 1586

Birmingham has, apparently, always been amazing. And noisy.

Do #Birmingham people not know that Sabai Sabai has a lunch menu? I don't know how such a good place can be so empty

Saw a Kevlin Henney which, in this case, was a Windows bootloader terminal. The screen was massive and embedded in a mirror in a metal lift, so I couldn't take a photo of it that didn't look like one of those "people selling mirrors" feeds

Overhearing some kid getting bollocked, via mobile phone, for using their phone when they were told not to. "If you don't, football is off the table". Definitely some lessons here for middle managers but not necessarily positive ones "do you get it?"

Not generally a fan of management speak at the best of times but certainly not when it's used in random contexts. "This is good if you like your burgers potato forward" is surely not a thing.

Just seen one of the vibe coding bloggers claim that "spec driven development" is a new thing and I'm wondering whether the whole industry just forgets the last 5 decades every time the year ends in a 5 or something.
