From care leaver to government AI leader: Northumbria graduate's extraordinary journey Sebastian Moore at Northumbria University's city campus.

A major highlight of #ukgc26 for me was having a lovely chat with Sebastian Moore. It's very unusual to find people working in #govdesign, especially at the Treasury, who are care-leavers.

Read this post about him, you'll enjoy it

Can you believe UKGovCamp 2026 was over a week ago already?!

We are gathering feedback on how the event went and how to make it even better. Attendees will receive a follow-up email with a survey.

If you haven’t received it, you can also complete the survey with the link in the comment.

Vibe coding really is a thing. 20 mins to make this from the #ukgc26 sessions documents and most of that was downloading all the PDFs.

Also- hello! I was hoping you'd be at #ukgc26. Would be really lovely to catch up

My aim in going to #ukgc26 was to understand if to do my job well, I needed to be like all the people I see on here being super knowledgeable about the civil service & making big change.

What I learned is no one knows everything and change takes time & patience. And that was really, really helpful.

Wow, what a day at @ukgovcamp.com💛

First time there as Diamond Sponsors and we loved every minute. Thank you to everyone who made the day possible — organisers, volunteers, attendees! We couldn't have done any of it without you!

What Happens at #GovCamp Stays at GovCamp? How do you archive a conference? A decade ago, I blogged about how to archive a BarCamp - I don't think anyone took up my suggestions. I tried to put it into practice, but in this post about 2009's Ba...

I wasn't able to attend #UKGC26 - but it got me thinking about all the notes, photos, posts, and recordings that are out there.

How do you archive an unconference?

Today, someone for whom I had done a favour told my Dad "You've got a good lad, there", so maybe not so old, after all.

GUEST POST: The first man who had the idea to use the internet in local government Once, there was no internet and no web communications. Andy Mabbett remembers the day when he suggested maybe the sector to use it. It’s a snapshot in history. Twenty-five years ago on May 14…

I talked to a couple of people (who made me feel very old) at #ukgc26 yesterday, about the early days of running a local government website, in the 1990s.

Here's a guest blog post I wrote about it, in 2021.

I didn't write the headline!

Q: Anyone fancy doing a @ukgovcamp.com XL next year, please?

Would be interesting to open the registration this month, then have all year to promote it and see how many people we get.

Would also be awesome to get a sponsored hotel deal so people can arrive the day before.

Thoughts?

I do worry we've gone from 1 echo chamber to an even smaller, less diverse one. Though I don't have the numbers to prove it.

That typed, I cross-post all my stuff to Bluesky, LinkedIn, Mastodon and X. Most resulting engagement then happens on LinkedIn. I barely get anything on X anymore.

Enormous thanks to the organisers of #ukgc26 and to the sponsors. The event is a highlight of my year, every year - I’m leaving with fresh insights, reflections and book recommendations! Such brilliant and lovely people.

Slight train chaos on my way home from #ukgc26.

The day was worth the travel though, I always leaving feeling positive about the things we can get done.

I was pleased to see barely any posting about #ukgc26 on Twitter when I checked on the way to Birmingham this morning. I barely ever go on there, but had a look this morning. Much more posts about it on Bluesky. I think that's a good thing.

Heading home from #ukgc26. Train back also cancelled, but managed to get on an earlier one.

Was lovely to catch up with people, meet some new folk, and talk part in some thoughtful talks.

Lots of good conversations as always at #ukgc26. Some takeaways:
- hypothesis-driven practice Inc 'vibe coding' needs an acceptance it might fail
- thinking about spaces to discuss failure that include #localgov
- product jobs are never the same
- still many barriers to data sharing

Heading home from a lovely #ukgc26 seeing lots of lovely people, some in person for the first time :) Thanks to all the organisers

A slide showing guidelines for UK GovCamp. It's ok to...

Move to where you can make a difference.
Share everything you see and hear.
Ask not to be quoted.
Ask questions.
Say what's in your head.
Say you don't understand.
Got to as many, or few sessions as you'd like.
Take part in corridor camp.

Had a very intense and provoking day at #ukgc26 today. Lots of fascinating conversations and articulate views put forward and challenging discussion. Thanks to all the campers for taking part. Now need time to process them.

Enjoyed my 7hrs of corridor camp 🤩 #ukgc26

After a year of being heads down on a major delivery, it’s refreshing to get out and be reminded there’s more out there beyond Homes for Ukraine 😅

Loved the energy and positive vibes 💚
