It also causes me a great deal of sadness and moral qualms. I can pay for someone's coffee and sandwich once or twice a day, but not all day long. And so every time I say “no”, I have to turn my heart to stone.
I feel the same way when politicians seem to take pride in reaching an agreement in the middle of the night after days of negotiations. I think to myself: if they can't do it during the day, then they're simply not competent politicians.
