This bank holiday weekend I managed to get my wildlife pond lined, 4 tonnes of dry stone walling built, stepping stones added and the tap on! Can’t wait to see what wildlife starts to turn up, even though I’ve not quite finished! 😅 #wildlifepond

What a beautiful thing to say. I’m honoured 😊 Ps. If you ever get reincarnated as an Orange Tip, I promise you that a paradise awaits….! 😆👍❤️
If I'm ever reincarnated as an animal, I hope I get to live in something Joel designed.
Well THAT would make me stop dead in my tracks…! 😍😍❤️🦋
We found this Orange Tip Butterfly roosting at the end of a rose stem on Saturday evening in our Northants garden. Gold dust... (accidently deleted original🙄) @joelashton.bsky.social
What a lovely way to spend a few hours walking among the bluebells at Garston Wood and seeing these butterflies💚

Great day recently creating new habitat with @savebutterflies.bsky.social for the endangered Grizzled Skipper butterfly, including a south-facing, curving bank for basking. Here’s hoping they’ll expand into their new home, when the Wild Strawberry (larval foodplant) has recolonised🤞🦋

Male Hairy footed flower bee at least two in my garden today . One aggressively chased off a Common Carder the length of the garden , behaviour I've not seen before.

For a change the Hairy footed flower bees were feeding together rather than him chasing her around the garden!😂#Bees

Unusually it was the female Hairy footed flower bee that visited my garden before the male this year , but after a couple of hours two males turned up. They stayed all day loving the pulmonarias.

Beautiful!
I’m very happy with my wild daffodils this year. Wonder where I bought them them 🤔

Last autumn I planted some of the UK’s rarest bulbs in my garden - Wild Tulips. Having never seen them in the wild in the UK, it’s great to see them finally flowering, in all their glory. What a plant! 😍 Although not a true native, they’ve been around for over 400yrs.

New roof fitted today to a Tawny Owl box that I put up for a customer a couple of years ago, after having a chunk of the roof removed by a very determined squirrel! This nest was used last year and one chick successfully fledged. Today’s result: Joel - 1 | Squirrels - 0! 😁
Well this is exciting and a nice change from the usual insect declines 😍🦋

A female curlew in the New Forest has become the oldest known living curlew in the UK, a powerful reminder of just how long these birds can live, this individual is almost 34 and was ringed in 1992.

Full on day today, planting over 300 wildflowers on a south facing wildflower meadow that I manage in Yorkshire. We are looking to improve floral diversity to encourage more insects. Looking forward to seeing this one develop! 🌺🌱

Thanks so much Anette. Nature knows best 😊👍
Rather than spraying 'cides and mowing incessantly - this is an inspiring example of how people could be interacting with their yard and garden. Joel demonstrates how we can appreciate and encourage all species who find a home near us.
Their rent is paid in wonder.
I spent an hour every day for about 6 weeks to dig and finally build a wildlife pond that has been on my *to do* list for years. I am pretty old, (gen x) so if I can do it, you can do it. @joelashton.bsky.social you tube videos helped me.

In April 2025 I moved into a one acre plot of mostly mown grass. I then made it my ambition to try and encourage as much wildlife into the garden as possible. Here is the result of the last 8 months…

🧵A very happy New Year to all our followers and a gentle reminder that it's never too late to resolve to submit your #arachnid records to the GB #Spider, #Harvestman and #Pseudoscorpion Recording Schemes via our #iRecord form: irecord.org.uk/enter-srs-re.... #NewYearsResolution #MakeYourRecordsCount
What better way to start #2026 than separating this year’s collected Honesty seeds, prior to sowing them around the shady corners of my garden, to attract a host of insects in 2027.
Happy New Year everyone, and may yours be filled with wildlife 💚
Recently I travelled to Yorkshire to help a couple revive a wildflower meadow on a steep hillside to its former glory. See the first phase of works in my latest YouTube video here👇
