Whether this fossil harvestman is a juvenile or an adult is still unclear. It was found in Bitterfeld amber, one of the several ambers from the Paleogene of North/Central Europe. Size : 1,5cm of body length Time period : Late Eocene Paleoart speculativometer : Some Missing parts The animal drawn is a harvestman, a spider-like animal with extremely long thin legs and a main body made of 1 part (spider's body is split in 2 parts
What time is it? It’s #Cheliceratime & #Fossilfriday !
For this entry we're talking about Mitostoma gruberi, a harvestman from german eocene amber!

Check out this outrageous NZ harvestman photographed by sebastiandoak earlier this month near Charleston on the west coast of the South Island.
It's called Algidia viridata ssp. bicolor (yes, another incredible endemic NZ invertebrate still lacking a catchy common name). I've never seen one […]
A little strip of Beech woodland beside a green field with thick woodland in the background. The trees are bare branched with smooth grey-green trunks and there is a deep carpet of red-brown dead leaves beneath them.
The underside of a dark grey log with holes in it and a greyish-brown harvestman with spiny legs sprawled out on it.
Close-up of the harvestmen showing a dark and light chequerboard pattern on its back with two rows of blunt spines running down it. The eyes are dark and quite small. The body is rather flattened and the legs are very spiny.
An unprepossessing little strip of Beech woodland in Norfolk that I visited yesterday. Turned over a log and low and behold, there was only my second ever Norfolk Homalenotus quadridentatus! #arachnids #opiliones #harvestman

I had a wander around the local churchyard yesterday checking gravestones for invertebrates and came up with a good number of different species including this Harvestman.
I think it’s a Male Dicranopalpus Ramosus but will probably have to be recorded as a Dicranopalpus species.

On left is Paroligolophus agrestis: very common British #harvestman. On right (I wager) is dark form of same species, judging from smooth, pale ocularium and abruptly widening then narrowing saddle. But I'm no arachnologist: happy to be corrected! Worlingham, Suffolk, and North Reston, Lincolnshire.
Jammo’s been on an autumn deep-listen: Harvestman’s meditative drift, TVSF’s echoic heartbreak, Llyn y Cwn’s hypnotic dub, MARAUDEUR’s jagged post-punk, and Jon Da Silva’s filthy acid chaos.

Female Dicranopalpus ramosus sens lat #harvestman at Bracora, on Loch Morar, Scotland. Seems from @britishspiders.bsky.social website potentially to be first record for VC97 West Inverness-shire! Even if true, it's hardly surprising find: they're common but under-recorded (and under-appreciated).
"A single harvestman—scientific name Opiliones, commonly nicknamed daddy longlegs—stands poised on a sunlit red brick surface. Its body is small and rounded, like a dark bead resting gently on stone. From this central form, eight impossibly long, delicate legs extend outward in all directions, thin as wire and seemingly weightless. Each leg casts a sharp, angular shadow across the textured brick, creating a visual echo—like a second harvestman stitched in light. Beneath its body, partially obscured by its stance, lies what appears to be the remains of a small insect—a compact, dark form with hints of segmented structure. The harvestman seems to be carrying, feeding on, or repositioning the insect’s body, a quiet act of scavenging that aligns with its ecological role. It does not hunt or kill; instead, it moves through the world as a gentle forager, tending to the fallen and forgotten. The brick surface is rough and warm-toned, its pits and ridges contrasting with the smoothness of the harvestman’s body and the fragility of its legs. The lighting is sharp, casting high-contrast shadows that emphasize the creature’s spindly geometry and the solemn intimacy of its interaction with the insect remains. There’s a quiet dignity in the scene—a sovereign stillness where shadow, scavenging, and survival converge. The harvestman appears as a gentle undertaker of the bricklands, a walker of walls, tending to the small ceremonies of decay and renewal." - Microsoft Copilot with edit

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the tension between the ancient and the modern, and this track—Harvestman: Triptych Part Three by Steve Von Till, brilliantly dubbed by The Bug—feels like the perfect soundtrack.

A harvestman has successfully risen up to the roof without getting squished. It was carefully carried back down the ladder and released in the garden.
A close up of the Opilione Odiellus spinosus on a dark grey tiles.
Getting towards the external parts of Mega #DIY project. I calculated that I have carried a metric ton of new tiles up there today (12kg or 26lb at a time).
New dark grey tiles heat up in the sun & store the warmth. Lots of Odiellus spinosus had moved in between the tiles.

Opilio canestrinii, another #harvestman disturbed by same garden tidy as Odiellus spinosus below. At just right angle to catch bright afternoon sunlight, highlighting long, whip-like, sensitive second leg pair with which this poor-sighted animal navigates its surroundings. Bungay, Suffolk, England.
